for us to finish top 6.................

I think:

1) Our inconsistant players who have potential (i.e. Riewoldt, Edwards, Patto, Hughes, Morton, etc.), the ones who play good one week, and maybe not the next, need to step up and play near their best EACH week.

2) OUR elite players (i.e. Brown, Deledio, Cotchin, Foley, Richo, Moore, Tuck etc.) need to either maintain or get to their best form (i.e. Brown 05, Richo 08) and players like foley and deledio etc. need to improve, and establish themselves as elite players in the WHOLE AFL not just in OUR club.

If all of this comes together, combined with necessities such as a good coaching plan, facilitys, financial security, mateship and teamwork etc. we should be pressing for top 4...

We were the last team to beat the dawks, and we won 8 of our last 11.... WHO knows the possibilities? I'm just craving for the football world to come to it's knees when we come to power again...

We need to win more games than the 7th placed team.

McMahon was shown alot of faith and was really looked after by Terry last year.

He needs to really become the player that Wallace wants him to be at the beginning of next year. He will never be hard at the ball but he is given latitude to give damaging delivery from the backline.

Tambling must shake the potential tag and show what he has. I think at the end of next year alot of his supporters must admit that he is what he is showing at that stage injury aside and not just exponentially calculating his future worth based on his draft pick. He belongs on the Australian Stock Market with the way things have turned out so far.

Brown needs a good year. The number of close games that can be turned by his ability will always be crucial and could be difference between top 4 and missing out altogether.

I suppose there is not a player that couldnt come into the summation. Im worried about our forward talls to be honest. Richo could drop any year now as somethimes happens and Im just not convinced about the Clever. Sarge doesnt instill confidence in me either.

2) OUR elite players (i.e. Brown, Deledio, Cotchin, Foley, Richo, Moore, Tuck etc.)

Classy last year for a first year player but wooah on the elite.

A good follow up would be good for him but if he wants to do a Chris Judd type rise then Im not going to be asking for him to stop.

So basically MT you are saying our good players have to play good, and our inconsistent players need to play good and the coach needs to coach good.

Sounds about right.

I think richo needs a few free kicks next year as well. but you cant get everything:mad:

3 players will decide how far we can go in 2009.

Brown, Deledio and Cotchin.

We have 3 genuine matchwinners and all 3 are a good chance of having good seasons. Other senior players must maintain form, Tuck and Newman to continue career best form and Foley get back to his best.

Improvement from youngsters is expected.

If our matchwinners all fire and the youngsters improve, injuries aside we should make the top 4. Richo, Bowden etc are the cream on the cake and the team is no longer built around them.

What we have going for us is a huge batch of 10-30 best players who are nearly all young.

If half of them improve, then our best 22 will be Top 4 quality.

Also I don't think Carlton will make the finals with any sense of purpose because their depth at 10-30 best players is terrible.

Carlton have a great top 10 which is why everybody tips them to rise up the ladder... but their depth youngsters from 10-30 is like how ours was back in 2005/06 - very poor.

Carlton supporters don't understand what it's like to look at a list and finally realise that you've got a FULL group of talented youngsters.

They are like us back in 2005 getting excited over a couple of gun youngsters and then thinking we were ready to win a Grand Final in 2007 (Greg Miller was quoted).

Carlton will be 9th or with luck a little higher, but they lack the 10-30 group of "good" youngsters that make your team better than everyone else.

I am talking about what Hawthorn has. Depth of good talent with a few guns at the top. Carlton have the guns, but absolutely no depth. They still have their Tivendale's and Hyde's and like us they think "with a good team around them..."

Richmond are far more advanced than Carlton, and they wouldn't even understand ;)

no major injuries.
youngsters such as white, jackson, hughes ect to have more impact on games.
find a ff that will be there for years to come.
patto or angus graham need to become consistant so they can take over simmo.
none of our backline to get injured.
deledio to win the brownlow(joined with richo).
find a midfielder to go with the likes of deledio, foley and tuck. hopefully white, jackson, cotchin.
give conners game time and let him crum the ball from hughes and riewoldt

Top 6? Any place in the top 8 will have me satisfied in 2009. We have to play finals.

- Richo will need to have another very good season
- Browny to play 22 games
- Moore, Thursfield and McGuane to continue their development together
- Foley, Deledio, Tuck etc to all fire together more regularly
- Coughlan to return and play a lot of footy
- All our younger guys to continue improvement

I actually believe we will finish top 6. 6 players hold the key for mine, Deledio, Cotchin, Jackson, Schulz, Hughes and Thursfield. Whichever way those 6 go, either further improved of stilted, or backwards, will determine where we end up.

I think we need to put Richo back in the forwardline.

As it stands, thats where I think we need a big improvement in order to win enough games.

Our midfield next year, will be Tuck, Foley, Deledio, Johnson and Cotchin. Coughlan is a big plus if he comes back in there. As it stands, its pretty good and it will do enough damage considering Simmonds is still one of the best ruckmen in the competition.

Our backline is pretty good. Dosent need to change from this year, just needs to put in the same good effort.

But I think we can make a very good forwardline if we put Richo back there. Stick Nathan Brown at his boots and leave the two of them. We can also put Morton and Riewoldt down there as well. Lastly, put Joel Bowden in a permanent spot there. He can take a mark, and he is an accurate kick at goal. The last spot is up for anybody's grab. It would be ideal if either Graham Polak recovered or someone like Cleve Hughes took the game by the balls and really stepped up.

I think our forwardline could look like this;

HF: Brown, Richardson, Morton
F: Bowden, Riewoldt, Polak/Hughes

Looks very, very potent. :thumbsu:

Our improvement will be all about the backline. What will be key if if we can:

1) Limit opposition key forwards output to a mimum 2 goals a game. This means Thursfield, McGuane, and Moore need to step up another notch and be more solid players similar to the Geelong Backs.

2) Our rebound from defence must produce fewer turnovers and more goal oppurtunities. I.E. McMahon and Newman to be more damaging with rebound off the flanks.

If we can do this our midfield (which is gettiing better by the year, and is in more than capable hands) will do the rest in supplying our forwards.

3) ALSO Our forward line will need to focus on their defensive game more than anything. If we can then minimise rebounding from our forward 50 by the opposion we will make it easier for our defence, and maximise chance to score.

I think our forwardline could look like this;

HF: Brown, Richardson, Morton
F: Bowden, Riewoldt, Polak/Hughes

Point 1 - Polak suffered a career ending injury and won't ever come into calculations.

Point 2 - Riewoldt is too slow for FF, and is much better suited to CHF.

Point 3 - Richo at 34 should be played as a 3rd tall forward.

Point 4 - Brown, Richardson, Morton, Hughes and Bowden in the same forward-line. Where is the defensive pressure? All of these players are far too attacking to have together. Defenders would eat them alive.

Point 5 -Shit forwardline.

Point 6 - Shit poster

I do agree with Point 4. Although, Morton is pretty good defensively, hence why he overtook Pettifer. I expect to see Edwards and Connors up there a lot in 2009.

So you label him a shit poster then agree with him?

I agreed with Point 4 and that was it. The rest was rubbish. Richo a 3rd tall? He is one of the best player's in the competition, yet we should have 2 other forwards ahead of him?

That is probably the only point that can be debated reasonably. Points 1 and 2 are indisputable.

Point 1 is probably fact. Point 2 is debatable. Riewoldt kicked 5 against WCE as a FF.

Just because he is named 'FF' does not mean he will play out of the goal square. Positions are irrelevant these days.

Sure he could play FF, but so could Deledio. Not their preferred positions by a long shot.

We need to win more games than the 7th placed team.

Was going to be my comment, Danog, I'm with you. Win the games we meant to not cough up; such as: bullies, saints this year.

Win those then we don't have the crappy position of having to win four of the last six to "possibly" sneak in.

Just win more bloody games!
