I answered this in another thread, but I'll reply here as well.

We wouldn't be 4-6, but we would have won more games.

We are 6th in the comp for Inside 50's and 6th for First Possessions. So we are getting our hands on the ball enough and we getting it inside 50 enough.

We have to be realistic and presume that Lloyd is the only one of those four that will come back next season. If Rama or Hird make it back, it's a bonus.

But with the ball we are getting inside 50, five of our losses after Lloyd went out we've had more entries, Lloyd would have made a significant difference.

I think it's stretching it to think we would have won another 8-9 games this season to put us 4-6. But we realistically would have won another 5, 7 if we went really well.

I guess the positive in that is we've been able to have an extended look at the likes of Johns, Winderlich, Ryder, Monfries, Watson etc and their improvement is there to be seen.

I guess the other positve, one that we all hate to admitting to, we'll be getting better access to the draft.

Considering the positives Longy mentioned, what if:

Lloydy kicks 70+ goals next year
Hirdy plays 15+ games
McPhee has a better season next year
J.Johnson has a better season next year
Kepler Bradley holds down a position and gets back to how he can play
Campo stays fit and gets 20+ possies a game
Our first round pick is very handy and capable of playing round 1 ala Murphy/Thomas
Solly plays decent footy most of the year at least
Winderlich's confidence continues and he cements a spot in the best 22
We pick up a very handy player in the PSD
And of course we have a pretty decent year injury wise

how many of those have to go right if we want to play finals in '07, which I believe could be a possibility

Every club every year always has 'what if's?' Thats why you have to preform well when you have the opportunity.

If all 4 of those had have been fit and performing we would probably have 6 wins. That would put us 10/11th. I would actually be dissapointed with that effort. That is not really much of an improvement from last year. If those 4 were firing I would have expected us to perform much better than last year and to make the 8.

It would still be a poor performance IMO.

If all 11 were to happen we would make the finals easy, probably make the top 4.
The two 'what ifs' that are probably the key are the 'Lloyd' and 'little injuries' ones. If those two happened we would probably only need half of the others to occure to give a us a chance. If those two did not occur then I think we would need all of the other 'what ifs' to occur to make the finals.

We'd avoid the spoon, but I reckon we'd finish about 9th-11th.

All those close games we lost early in the year really hurt, after each one I was thinking we were closer to a victory until the Port game, where Sheeds finally decided we had to tank.

As an example of what can happen when the close games go your way, see Kangaroos of 2005. Mediocre team (as this year has proven), but they managed many close wins early in the season and ended up 5th. But they were shown up by an average team in the first final, and smashed. That's the kind of season a mediocre team (like us) could have if things go right.

just with lloyd alone i think we manage to kick 3 goals more per game. so by going by that stat all games we lost by 17 points or less that lloyd did not play in we would have won
