Couple of weeks ago watching tv, flip the channel and there's some dodgy music video on:

- some bloke sitting on the end of his bed singing into a telephone
- "my girl's in, the next room, sometimes i wish she was you"
- <uncreative and terribly unoriginal music plays>

WHEN are bands going to realise that:

- banging on about stupid meaningless bs like "oh boohoo i have a girlfriend but i still talk to my ex!!!"

and

- learning a few chords/powerchords and strumming them over and over again in the most monotonous and boring way...

...is not a good way to contribute to this world .

EDIT: of course, complaining about them also contributes little, but eh, at least i'm not getting paid for writing this post whereas those talentless hacks are paid for writing unbelievably unoriginal music.

No offense :D.

EDIT#2: oh yeah, and to all those ppl out there who do like that song, this is not an attack on your character.

I've never seen a one-hit wonder die so quickly. A few weeks ago, a girl I knew was a fan of that song - now she hates it. Fickle, maybe, but how ordinary are this Hinder band?

a bit of a late post as this piece of crap has been circulating for a while now. I couldn't believe my eyes when i saw the clip though. There's no better way to pigenhole your band as a puss-rock pop band than having the singer sing down the telephone in the video clip. Easily the worst song of the year.

Yeah sorry it is a pretty late post...

...the reason I thought of it today was because I heard it on the radio this morning on the way to the train station, after having only 5 hrs of sleep the previous night... and the song made me ANGRY!

Probably should get more sleep.

But surely if you replaced Hinder with any other band. Lets use Muse for arguements sake as they're widely respected on BF.

You play Black Holes and Revelations as much as you play that Hinder song and give it the same level of marketing. Wouldn't the teenyboppers flock to that aswell?

Ah, but it does have some relevance to musicians. A pretty famous piano player in Melbourne whose been married 400 times could never understand why his current and ex's couldn't or wouldn't all get along. :)

But today thats kewlness personified!! ;)

Because people (teenyboppers) buy the single. Simple.

And it also helps when your record label is pumping radio stations and "important" people in the music industry full of cash.

Bombard your target audience with saturation airplay and advertising and no matter how pathetic your music is people will still buy your records and make you rich.

Honestly, some of the crap that is passed as music these days makes me want to vomit...

I doubt it, Muse and other bands of that ilk would have to totally change their image, I think that's a bigger factor than just advertising.

I think it's more complicated than that. Firstly you would need to alter the way the band was marketed not just the level of marketing. If you marketed muse in essentially the same way as Hinder or whatever you would possibly get the same result, but essentially you have to make Muse acceptable to that audience. It also would fall down when you involve less commercial friendly bands, Muse or say Oasis have music that is easily listened and popular, place a band such as Tool, TV on the Radio or Radiohead and I think their music would be sufficiently foreign to alienate that market.

You're suggesting that Black Holes..., or Karma Police WOULDN'T make good ringtone sales for Jamster then?

Cause thats the only place I'm hearing Hinder now. :)

Radiohead still have a few popular songs for a wide audience (Paranoid Android is catchy in parts, High and Dry, Creep). TV on the Radio are avant-garde though, they'd be impossible to market.

...And people, this is why we should not make ourselves listen to Video Hits/'Top' 40!
