I was thinking the same thing. I guess it would be big news to have one of our all hailed recruits dropped.

All hailed recruits? Well if that was the case Aaron Edwards and Orren would be in the side.
Facts are that Houli plays a role that Tucky can't, same with Petterd and both have gone ok without setting the world on fire.
Favouritism just doesn't happen. They pick the best side to win each week.
And so while Tucky is one of our favourites, he has to compete as a mid against the quickest spreaders every week, and if he can't keep up we'll get chopped up a la Pies. I hope he gets back in asap.

I don't agree , I believe players who have been recruited to any club are afforded greater opportunity , Tucks performances this year IMO were better than Grigg .
I for one have actually been impressed with Pettard and Houli, who IMO has proved defensively .
However, I do fail to see what Pettard had done to leap frog Batchellor to be given the initial opportunity .
Likewise I fail to see what Knights had done to leap frog White .
Have no doubt what so ever recruited players are given additional opportunities , even Addam Maric got opportunities very few others would have received on form .

SO Aaron and Orren disprove your first point.
Tuck can't play Griggs role.
Petterd and Houli, I agree.
Batchelor too slow of mind, and maybe body, lately. Turnovers, match ups counted against him.
Knights showed exactly why we got him last week.
Addam Maric? Played 10 games, fair bit of sub work IIRC, but yes in hindsight played more than he should have. But we had no depth back then.

No doubt about Tuck and Grigg roles being different however the versatility is there for players who aren't performing to be replaced . Ellis' pre season was better than Grigg for instance yet was forced to be sub time and time again .
Have no issue re Knights game last week but the fact is he was of afforded opportunities on the back of very little which others just don't get .
Edwards is effectively competing with jack and with his defensive game is along way off jack whilst oren is competing against Another recruit , so I really don't think either provide any form of evidence that contradicts me thoughts .

Yeh, whatever, I'm just arguing. I don't reckon there's real favouritism but I suppose with recruiting these days you don't just get someone because they're available, they are hunted to fill a purpose. So if that's favouritism...I'll concede.

After being begged by Hardwick to not retire to now treated like this again. He should go ahead and retire now, sit back and watch us struggle at clearances all year. Tucky doesn't deserve this. You're telling me guys like White offer more to the side. Yeah, okay then.
IMO, white is player 21-22 of the team selected. If his not sub, then his lucky.

Tuck should be top 10 player in our team, but was playing like player 15-20. I don't think tuck is undeserved of any treatment. If his form is well down from last year, why not send him a message.

Tuck the tackling machine had 4 tackles in the first 4 rounds! Absolutely inexcusable...... Especially avg. 6 tackles last year

Disagree, Grigg has performed his role this year not to the standard that he was last year but he is still getting out in space and getting his hands on the ball and using it well. Tuck on the other hand has struggled to have any sort of impact.

Batchelor and Petterd is a case of both players getting injured at the wrong time. Batch was injured for the NAB Cup which gave Petterd a chance. Then just prior to the season starting, the roles were reversed, Petterd got hurt and Batch was fit and came in, unfortunately for Batch he then got injured and Petterd was fit and came in. Since then Petterd has performed well in his role overall, while Batch seems to have struggled when brought back in.

As for Knights/White, remember both started the season in the ressies. Knights racked up disposals and had a massive impact for Coburg and banged down the door as a result. White didn't have the same sort of impact at Coburg and was overlooked until last week. Pleasingly for him he took his chance last week when given it and has done enough to hold his spot. However the pressure is on with Foley looking like he'll be back next week someone is going to have to make way.

I suppose that is the benefit of having greater depth this year, you're no longer afforded much opportunity to ease your way into the season. It's either perform or get replaced by someone who is performing at a lower level.

Surely with conca out, he clearly should been in.

Played well in coburg so unless theres more selection baffling, we need him to help harden our midfield vs port
