Thought this would be an interesting question to pose. I'm not quite sure what i would prefer myself. Although to see the boys win a few before the end of the season would bring a smile to the dial.
What would you prefer? To lose the remaining games of the season, finish last, and end up with first picks in both the national and pre-season drafts. OR, win four or five out of the remaining games. Give a rude shock to a couple of aspiring finals aspirants (i'd be happy wiping the grins off the collingwood and brisbane supporters faces). Finish the season on a little bit of a high. Give our extremely young group a bit of confidence for next season. Possibly giving Hirdy more of a reason to want to continue in 2007 if he though that we may be more of a finals chance with key players to return.
To be honest i have thought that we haven't really deserved to be spooners this year, and could see us doing a collingwood next year. I know everyone really wants to get a crack at the no 1 draft pick and the best uncontracted player in the PSD, but I think the list we have at the moment, with a bit more maturity and a fit and firing Lloyd to kick to, has some serious potential already. There are no extra draft picks on offer these days, and with the much vaunted depth of this years draft, coming last, IMO, doesn't have the added bonus it did of years previous.

there are extra draft picks on offer, as if we win 4 games or less we will receive a priority pick AFTER the first round.
If we win 4 games or less in 2 seasons in a row then you receive priority picks prior to round 1 and after round 1

we are a proud club and will win as many games as we can this year, regardless of draft picks. Just look at tonights game, i feel like we have won a premiership :thumbsu:

You can't seriously want us to win less than four games for TWO seasons in a row. Are you a masochist?

We are rather going to finish last or second last for we are 2.5 games behind Hawthorn so I'm more than happy to win a few, yes I want a win over Collingwood for the dear Collingwood people I work with deserve it:cool: :)

And a win over Richmond

Win as many as we can. Tonight was like a premiership and i would love to have that feeling evry week, and from the look of this year's draft they're all so good it wont really matter which of the top five we get. I mean, Juddy came in a pick number three, getting second or third pick might be a blessing in disguise. Even Hirdy came in at pick 79. I say win games, keep some pride, and worry about the draft when it happens.

Have to agree. All teams should always try to win every game. I don't prescribe to the tank strategy, if we win every game from here on (we won't), I would only draw positives from that. Stuff the first draft pick, stuff priority picks.

Geelong hold the record for most years since a bottom 4 finish (1986) and you could argue that not bottoming out has hurt them in that they haven't been able to top up with good draft picks, but I wouldn't buy it. They have made finals most years and just haven't made the most of their opportunities. You couldn't say they didn't win a flag in the past 20 years because they never finished bottom 4 or got good draft picks.

In my opinion, there is no reason to purposely finish low on the ladder.

i dont mind us winning as long as carlton wins, i want the best available talent. just because we win doesn't erase our flaws, we are really bad and need a good injection of quality youth to go forwrad in the years ahead.

I want carlton to finish bottom! Pick 2 we will still get a quality youngster

READ my reply.....i never said i want us to only win 4 games each of 2 years.
I was only stating that there are extra picks and how they are acheived.

I actually think next year we will be one of the many teams fighting to get into the finals, all things being even with injuries of course

If it were to even up we should have second least amount to best 22 next year :thumbsu:

I dont like either of those scenarios to be honest. And i doubt either will happen.

The best and most likely scenario would be to avoid the wooden spoon by finishing 15th, keeping 73 years of pride intact. Secondly we want to remain eligible for the extra 2nd round pick by winning less than 4 games.

For this to happen we simply need:

Essendon to win 1 more game maximum

Carlton to win 1 more game maximum

PS:Hawthorn and Richmond to finish 9th and 10th respectively in which case they gain little from the season and miss out on the top 4-6 guns, while Carlton get their 3rd spoon in 5 years.

Does this mean Carlton can get number 1 pick? Even if we finish last

I think even if we do finish on the bottom the club will be more inclined to pick up Hansen and MAYBE Gumbleton before Gibbs and although I dont have a problem with that, I am dreading probably the 2008-09 season because Carlton will have Gibbs and Murphy in the middle supplying the ball to the likes of Waite and Fev...

You wouldn't be saying that if you saw what I saw today! Young Bryce you are a star! 6 goals, 35 possies, 10 marks as the bays roll Port! It makes me sick to think that such a star and top bloke will be more than likely playing with Carlton for the future so I agree with your last point. :(

After seeing the reaction from the players on Saturday night, i think this win will do a lot more good than bad. First few picks are pretty close anyway and its good to see the players being rewarded for their effort.

Win as many as we can- the reality is that's probably only going to be two or three anyway. Blood the likes of Nash, Dempsey, Longergan and Jolley. Give blokes like Dyson some real responsibility....the boys showed on Saturday night that they're a decent side. Lots of confidence to be found from that.

Head into next year with the belief that we can be a top-8 side.

Yes true but pick number one in the pre season draft can give u bargaining power ala richmonds gain of troy simmonds allowed them to get trent noble as well, why? because fremantle were scared of losing simmonds for nothing. We could have a wealth of riches to choose from and could snare a ritchechelli or polak for a mid range draft pick plus another quality player in the pre season plus the overall number one draft pick and number one rookie. We would be much more in control of our future rather then wait on carlton.

hang on a decent side? against a side that has more players out then us?? i tell u what put lloyd and j.brown into their respective sides andthe result would have been much different, just because we have one win doesnt mean we're back for next year, no id rather take the pain now and lose so we arent in the same position as carlton and hawthorn have been.

like a flowering tree, prune me back until next to nothing then watch me blossom in flow.
