I am taking the vaccine.
I have encouraged others to take the vaccine.
I'm not opposed to all restrictions.. as a matter of fact.. there's only a few I've ever queried.. all relative.
I don't like Dan Andrews.
I don't like politics.
As far as friendships and relationships go.. I think it's a good idea to let nature run its course. I'm not going to argue or disown people that are undecided about whether or not they should take the vaccine or not.. when in a day a week or a mths time.. all that could change.
There are some posters on this board.. that I have admired for a long time.. that I have barely had discussions or conversations with.
There are some posters I just choose to ignore.
I'm actually not entirely keen on intense conversations and discussions by nature.
I'm a mix of serious/humorous. If my humour is not appreciated or understood.. what would you like me to do.. perhaps make note of what mode I'm in?
I have always thought of it as a good idea to have reps from different groups present.. hence why I've used the 'get on da beers' quote. Some groups don't quite understand the message. You might look at that and think.. well what the hell is this idiot on about right.. just my way of saying let's try and make it more
all-encompassing.
I have encouraged productivity and positivity throughout.. not only here.. but in the main thread. Things you can do to improve your life.. make it more bearable interesting and fun. Build things. Paint things. Lift things. Comedy. Competitiveness. Cooking. Music. Paso.
Helped a lot of people deal with it out in the real world.
I think one of the best ways to actually get us through this nightmare.. 'understand people.. don't judge them.'

I’m not crippled by fear. What a stupid statement.
I’m double vaccinated, so is my wife.
My children are healthy.
I’m worried about those not in the privileged position I am in.
Are you worried about those people?
Or are you driven by your own lack of freedom?
And yet you don’t want to go back into the classroom, you’re scared stiff your kids will get it, even though the chances of them being ill with it are minuscule, and you’re terrified of coming out of lockdown until numbers are down….
at least that’s how I understand your posts.
Oh, and Andrews can do no wrong.

We differ on just about everything, and even though I abhor my lack of freedom my views are not driven by this.

Andrews refuses to release the data on which they base their decisions, refuses to have Parliament sit, refuses to be accountable for anything and treats everyone with contempt.

He is not keeping Victorians safe, not now anyway

This is the last time I am commenting on this. Ive stated my views many times and been continually ostracised, rightly or wrongly only time will tell, and I’m tired of being bullied for having a different opinion.

I wish you well

I’m afraid for my kids, yes I’ll admit to that MG. I’m also afraid for the people who will die if we open up too quickly, and for how our hospitals will cope with the influx of sick people from disadvantaged groups.

Do people from disadvantaged backgrounds fit into your vision of the post pandemic future?

My own impression in the old Covid thread is that your posting on the pandemic was incessantly political and almost completely passive-aggressive.

It seemed dishonest. Snide. The humour that you're proud of --and that I used to enjoy-- gave way to invective.

You're allowed to think good things about yourself, not least because you are probably a good person. One thing I suggest is to try and understand how other people have regarded your posting over the past 12 months, maybe reflect on that.

I've reflected on my own failings, of which there are a few. I'm also a good person, pretty f****** funny, capable of great empathy, but I also know that some of my better qualities fall away too easily and quickly when I'm in discussion/argument.

I think that the pandemic has been the greatest social challenge we've seen since the middle of last century. I'm going to cut myself some slack if I haven't been at my best all of the time, and I'm doing my best to do other people the same favour.

Please stop claiming to be bullied.
It’s pathetic.
Is that what you say to your students?
There are a few people on here who bear the brunt of offensive comments when they dare state an alternative view.
I call that bullying

MG. You don’t have that excuse.

I meet them online every day and do what I can to help them learn and make sense of this world.

I am pretty comfortable with the contribution I am making to society.

Thanks for your post.

I don't agree with all of it.

I hope we all get through it ok.

I wish you all the best.

I agree with sr36

Magpie Girl sorry you have felt bullied and I apologise if I've played a part in it.

You are free to express your beliefs (as long as they meet the forum rules) and by the same token people are free to question them respectfully.

Your posts will not be deleted and any abuse that comes your way will be dealt with appropriately.

BringouttheGimp peace.

EDIT: You 2 are welcome to discuss your ideas and beliefs in any thread, not just this.

Thought I would post a few observations. Times of tension will lead to people retreating to a corner battling for their view and often closing their ears.

I have been pretty amazed in the real world and on our board re the education and reading people are doing. Many armed with an impressive amount of knowledge re covid, vaccines, ICU management etc etc. Very impressive and it hurts me a little when sideswipe s knowledge of mRNA vaccine technology outstrips my own. Perspective is a little harder to come by. Understanding what you dont know is real specialisation.

We are all shooting from the hip a little and maybe at times not understanding the limitations of our knowledge. Having worked in clinical medicine for 30+ years you learn about grey. Knowledge from studying and medical school is black and white, reading results of tests and scans is black and white, discussing the merits of pfizer v AZ v waiting can be seen as very black and white.

Dealing with the real world and people and their individual needs, cultures and beliefs injects a lot of grey. Sometimes to the extent of a mass of grey with just a little bit of black and white on the edges. The person who knows what they dont know is the one you want to listen to. The person who doesnt at all understand what they dont know is dangerous.

Whats my message, I don't know that much about covid (even though i advise people everyday medically on it), I do want to leave myself open to hearing what someone else says and understanding my limitations

That said everyday I am advising my patients to get vaccinated, some are reluctant or not ready so I tailor advice to help them understand my advice. Medically its a no brainer and this virus will be amongst us fully in the months ahead. The evidence is overwhelming in favour of getting jabbed. Still if people talking to me dont see that i want to discuss it with them, not hector them.

At least that ended well. I wondered what I would read when I got up late after doubling my sleeping pill. Drive people too far underground and you end up with a movement you can neither see nor control. Think I might stay and chat about life in general in this thread if there is anyone around rather than risk being the subject of unneeded attention elsewhere.

The Galaxy Brains making their way to your thread, Gimp.

I do apologise.

How many COVID patients have you treated G C?
Fortunately none. In my area I will not be involved in people with covid coming to me for care of covid. . As numbers increase I will undoubtedly have patients who see me who will come down with covid or screen positve. We have had a number in the area of the hospital I work in. All my surgical patients are back to having pre op covid swabs prior to admission and the pregnant ones are having weekly swabs in the last few weeks of their pregnancy as are their partners. We are very aware of covid getting into the wards and spreading. Both the illness itself and having large parts of staff go into 2 weeks of isolation would cause massive issues.

Of course I have been very fortunate to keep working throughout the covid time and only when we stopped elective surgery did my week slow a bit. Its goes with the theme some of us have endured mild disruption whereas others are smashed.

P.S I have operated in full PPE last year when we had no time and people who were not confirmed negative on swab. That is exhausting in terms of heat and heaviness, I feel for those ED workers etc who spend whole shifts in PPE, you would lose kilos.

Given your advanced years, I hope you stay away from the Covid cases. Even the vaxed elderly can get pretty sick.

Magpie young are all hatched so it is a likely time to get swooped. Take care!
This one is really aggressive. Multiply attacks.
Wish our footy team attacked in the same way.
