Me and my cousins were fighting about music a while ago, i was telling them that being a good guitarist is harder then being a DJ. I also told them that being a good rock band is harder then making 3 or 4 beats continously after each other. They were telling me how the DJ does all this crap, anyway i was wondering what is harder being a really good guitarist or DJying

On behalf of BF, please leave, or at least stop these rubbish threads, you make at least 5 a day and none of them are any good.

To be a good (and I mean really good) guitarist takes a lot of skill. A sort of skill which most don't possess

4 today and 6 yesterday...

The thing is that you don't think before you post! We need a sign...

Most DJs probably wouldn't be great guitarists and vice versa, they are completely different.

There is nothing wrong with this thread, except for losers like you who have to stick their noses in where it doesnt belong. Honestly if you dont have anything important to say, then bugger of.

The problem is that you don't search for existing threads that may answer your (seemingly endless) questions.

For example: http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?t=278207

and here's one you may like to contribute to:http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?t=136938&highlight=charlotte

Also "Is Liam still doing drugs" doesn't need it's own thread - find one of the gazillions of already existing Oasis threads and post your question in there.

Can't you just like...force him or seomthing to post in the one thread? Not practical?

If any other member posted this thread there's a chance you would have had the usual responses of "anything made electronically is not real music and is just doof doof, shit-hop or (c)rap" instead of the attacks on deeman.

It's probably harder to be a moderately good guitarist than a moderately good DJ. But the best in both fields make great music.

i'll have a go at the original question instead of the dribble that's been posted...

i play guitar and i have a friend who DJ's, although i haven't seen him do it much...

if you're a club DJ it's all about the creativity of your mixes... you need to have songs that mix well together, and it's hard to just throw 2 songs together and make them work... so while a club DJ doesn't have to do a whole lot when they're actually DJing, i would think it takes some skill to work out how they mix in all their songs before they DJ... you definately notice in a club if it's a shit DJ and the songs don't merge well...

same goes for Band DJ's like Mix Master Mike, except they have to be able to do all the scratching etc. too...

while guitarists exhibit more skill by playing on the night, there isn't necessarily as much skill required to write the songs or learn the songs that are performed... you only need to throw a couple of chords together and you can have yourself a song...

while i haven't really answered your question i hope i've given some insight...

my opinion?

amazing guitarist more skillful than amazing DJ

average guitarist less skillful than average DJ

poor guitarist more skillful than poor DJ

there is no answer to this question. theres too many variables. what exactly makes a 'great' guitarist? what exactly makes a 'great' dj? its all personal opinion. alot of people reckon joe satriani is a great guitarist but i reckon hes boring and he blows.

fwiw, its harder to be a great theremin player haha.

It no doubt takes longer to master the guitar than it does a DJ deck.

The reason being that people are still practicing and learning the guitar who have been playing for 50 years. DJ's as they are now, have only been around 15-20 years.

That being said being good at either takes hard work and commitment.
