At the risk of getting chewed out big time, I thought I’d throw out the idea of Dockers seeking quality trades for Aaron Sandilands. While I recognise he’s one of our marquee players & a firm fan favourite, the thought process is:
- He is nearly 29 – still has some productive years (& therefore market value) but has arguably peaked in his powers;
- Being an elite quality ruckman he could command 2 quality up & coming players (eg: a key forward + in & under rover);
- Although Griffin is now seeking to go to Port Adelaide, we have good backup with a Griffin/Clarke combo (as Griffin proved in Sandlilands’ absence) + Moller on the horizon;
- Perhaps Sandy’s mysterious toe injury is a sign of things to come (he does cover an awful lot of ground for a giant – must catch up with him at some point);
- Despite his dominance in tap-outs, we normally get smashed in clearances anyway, so to some extent he’s a wasted asset.
