....and run away, what sort of places do they go? One that some animal lovers/experts might be able to answer.

There was a bit of a barney at our place lunchtime yesterday which saw the cats nick off for a couple of hours, then while I was out last night they apparently tentatively came back, but....there was 'riverfire' with 30 mins of massive fireworks and a flyby and dump & burn by 2 F11's. Their impact was so great that only 1.5 klm from here (where I was) it set off all the car alarms in the carpark as the ground shook so much.

One of our cats ran and hasn't been seen since. It's causing more than a little anguish and many tears in the household as she is a very 'homely' cat. We see her at least once every couple of hours and she comes in by 9pm every night to go to sleep inside. She grazes all day on food rather than a set feeding time, and complains no end if there is no food in her bowl.

Yet, no sign of her anywhere for more than 24 hours now.

Any ideas where they might go (ie down in the drains maybe?) in 'inner suburbia' when they get spooked?

I have two moggies of my own so be patient (I know it's hard) but they usually come back.

Are they registered ????

I know of situations where animals have returned after weeks.

I'm sure that you now realize what a stupid, insensitive thing this is to say, do you personally own a pet ????

Selfish little bugger died.

Our dog hides under the couch when he gets scared.

he saw our old cat do it when he was a pup, so now he does it.

If that's not good enough he runs to his basket.

Dont worry Danni, she'll come back. She'll be hiding somewhere that she considers safe. I've known of cats that have gone missing for over a week after being frightened and have come home safe and sound.

Did it get run over?

Nah, got to experience the "green dream" as my girlfriend puts it. Although I am surprised he didn't get run over with the traffic smarts the little bugger had.

People say pets have it easy. Off to the vet, have your balls cut off, a few years later back for an injection. Oh yeah.

Danni, we had a cat that went missing for several weeks. one day it just walked in the front door and went straight for his bowl (which we had since taken away). We also once owned a cute little snow white cat that went missing but never returned, though we suspect it was catnapped, because about 6 months later we noticed a family up the road owned a very similar looking cat.

We had one of our cats go missing, she was gone for a week and we'd searched EVERYWHERE for her, and one day the neighbours heard a cat carrying on in their roof, went up to investigate and low and behold, there was our cat!!!!!!!!

Another went missing after we moved once, and again we thought he'd just found another family or something bad had happened. My grandmother lived about 1km away, and while visiting her one night about 6 months later, my mobile phone rang so I went out to the car to talk, and a cat came and sat on the bonnet of the car. Looking closer I realised it was our cat!!!!!!! I got out of the car to get him but he'd already run off. That was the only time we saw him.

I hope your cat comes back Danni, and I'm sure in the meantime it's safe. :)

Well lucky for us those dire predictions didn't eventuate. She came home very late last night. She was very hungry and is really shy around people, but doesn't seem to have any physical injuries.

That's what my old cat was like when she was alive. She was really shy around other people who she didn't know.
The funny thing is though my cat never went too far away. You could hear her purring really loudly, so we knew she was close by.

Glad she is back at your home.

My dog escaped from the back yard when we were staying at my sister in-law's at christmas. After hours of frantically driving around the neighborhood looking for the damn thing, i stopped and figured i needed to think like the animal to find it. I remembered there was a family having a barbecue in a park about 2km from the house. So i went back there and sure enough there's my dog trying to score some hamburger meat.

My idiot old dog got lost at night walking through Wattle Park one night after breaking his chain and managed to find his way home 3 days and 3 kms and 2 main roads away

Still amazed by that cos he was not that bright and thought he was certain to end up under a tram
