Dates and package:

I say July 9th

T-Wolves trade: Ricky Rubio, Brian Cardinal, Craig Smith
Knicks trade: Nate Robinson, Wilson Chandler

Knicks save by not having to overpay Robinson and are willing take on Cardinals bad contract because its only 1 season. Knicks don't have a first rounder next year so possibly 2011 draft pick is added although I doubt it.

Why for the Knicks? Get Rubio obviously, continue to clear cap space for 2010
Why for the Wolves? Best player in return and a really good contract in Chandler.

Why would the Wolves agree to that? They would have then swapped Mike Miller and Foye for Robinson and Chandler. They would have been better off keeping those two.

Thats a horrible package for the Wolves.

Wow, not a fan of the trade. Ok, I was going off what I'd read which involved Robinson as it seems the Knicks have a bit of a gun to the head of the Wolves because Rubio aint playing for them.

Please throw out better suggestions.

Robinson for Rubio aint great I understand but Chandler is pretty darn good and cheap plus the Wolves get rid of two bad contracts....

Here's a crazy idea - why don't the Wolves get rid of their incumbent PGs (Sebastian Telfair and Kevin Ollie), and just have two young talented PGs of different styles (Flynn being more of a scoring PG, and Rubio being more of a passing PG) develop together? There's no rule that states only one of them can be on the team. Rubio probably isn't going to be quite ready to be a starter at NBA level yet anyway IMO, so you have to have someone in front of him who can play a bit too.

And if Rubio doesn't come to Minnesota because of the whole buyout thing, I don't see that as a reason to trade him. Just hang on to Flynn and Telfair, and then bring Rubio over when you can, and he'll probably be more NBA-ready by then anyway. Bar some unforseen laziness or injury, it's pretty clear IMO that Rubio is going to be a star PG in the future, so I don't really know why Minnesota would even be entertaining offers to trade him.

I'm not sold on Chandler

He's the typical D'Antoni creation. Is long and athletic, but doesn't do anything well. Gets away with it because the offense is open all the time, so you get easy shots and don't have to use your non-existent ball handling in traffic.

He's like a really poor man's Marion without the rebounding.

From what I understand, Rubio's buyout is 8.8 mill, with only .5 mil payed by the Wolves and the rest buy the player. If Ricky goes back to Spain for another 1 - 2 years, improves his shooting etc, it will only boost his trade value if the wolves want to move him. Or they develop Flynn and ship him off when Rubio returns.

As for the Knicks, if I was the Wolves GM nothing on their roster would interest me at all.

ESPN is reporting that Rubio's dad had said that his son might end up staying in Spain.

Nothing in that, or Rubio's dad is playing captain obvious as Rubio has a contract in Spain to honour so of course he might.

Sweet Jesus! What a shit trade. Been a robber for long have we?

Jonny Flynn really negates the need for another titch PG. And why are we giving NY 9 million in cap relief as well as Rubio?

The Wolves have up to 6 picks in the 2010 draft (3 1sts, 3 2nds), 20+ mil in expiring deals, 4 PG's and 9 PF's under contract. The Knicks cannot get a legit deal done. Not. Even. Close. You'd need about 2 firsts and another partner to get a serious backcourt starter on our roster.

Rubio's buyout is US$6mil at present. Rubio's first year rookie scale would be about $3.4mil (at 120%). If he stays in Barcelona, he'll make 425k.

The Wolves position is clear. They are willing to wait. A year, 2 years as required. A guy like Rubio doesn't fall in your lap every day.

Ok, I was going off what I'd read which involved Robinson as it seems the Knicks have a bit of a gun to the head of the Wolves because Rubio aint playing for them.

They do not. The Wolves have said they'll wait.

While Flynn was a poor choice at 6, it means Minnesota don't have to scurry to get a PG if Rubio doesn't arrive. We can wait.

Who seriously has any idea what is happening? I guarantee ESPN are talking to the GM's who would like to shake Rubio's draft rights loose. And DX needs to stick to creating mock drafts, not trying to write editorial material based on stringing tenuous suppositions together.

In a taped interview on the 12:30pm Sportscenter today, the Timberwolves GM basically said that they've been realistic and within the organisation have admitted to themselves that they won't be challenging for a championship in the next few years, so they are happy to wait with Rubio.

Ok really getting panned here, so Ill try to defend my trade one more time, Robinson is the only guy besides Lee that has any value and obviously trading a guard for a guard makes more sense than trading for the position where the Wolves are strongest, which is big men. The Knicks only known team willing to talk trade with them as well so this is why I have chosen the Knicks.

Rubio seems to be holding a gun to the head of Wolves a bit so obviously its a tad desperation trade, but if you look at the Knicks roster, Lee/Robinson/Chandler are the only ones with value and I don't see Lee getting traded.

Robinson fits into the back court nicely and can really score and Chandler will fit into their rotation if not starting, I guess you could add a future first rounder in there from the Knicks but from the public opinion it seems Im overvaluing these guys.

It's a bad trade. Read my previous post. You are asking us to trade Rubio for 30c in the dollar. If Nate Robinson and Wilson Chandler turned up, they would burn the Target Centre to the ground. Can I tell you how many local I have seen posted that they will upgrade season tickets if Rubio suits up?

Wrong. Again. The Wolves have been very clear. They will wait.

You reckon? The Knicks simply do not have the tools to do this trade.

As Messenger pointed out, NY and Min make horrible trade partners. For this to be fair, a 3rd team will have to facilitate Rubio to NY and talent to Minny.

Just my opinion but does Kahn have any idea what he's doing?

1. Drafts 4 PGs.
2. Use one of them on a passing PG who needs open court athletes, but has the least athletic team in the league, with the worst swing rotation.
3. Makes the wavering Rubio even more anxious by drafting another PG right after him.
4. Drafted him seemingly without an advance plan of organising a buy out deal.
5. Gives up a useful expiring deal and a 4th year guard about to come into his prime for a 6th pick in a horrible draft

Underwhelming start fort him IMO

And Rubio himself has been pretty stupid, or maybe his parents.

1. Why sign a contract to get paid 100k with a 5 million dollar buy out? Dude, you got some bad advice.

2. If you needed the extra bucks secured by being the 2nd pick, why do your whole "Yo Dawg I love the playas in LA and da NYC. i want 2 chill wit Akon" schtick if Memphis, Oklahoma and Sacramento had the 2,3,4 picks?

Either way, Ricky Rubio is the cutest NBA player I've ever seen. I want to sit him on my lap and pat his head, and reassure him everything will be ok.

Even his name is cute.

I'd offer Turkoglu if he weren't keen on staying. S&T, do the Wolves have cap?

Anyway, Minny would get a LOT better offers.
