Where has it all gone wrong?

At the start of the year i had u guys in the top 4. With the pick up of Black, Scofield and Carr. But sadly u guys havnt been able to deliver.
Why do u ppl think this is? Is it beause of the coach? or something else?

Coach... and because we have been missing players like:

Hadrill
Warker
Hayden
M. Carr

These players have only got on the ground a few times.
Then to add to that, players that have missed several games.

Mcpharlin
Headland


So for quiet a large patch this year we have missed 6 of our best starting 18. That hurts any team.

Plus our coach doesn't give players like Gilmore a go, and doesn't drop players like medhurst.

Ditto, I had the dockers as a premiership monty. Given they acquired Carr and Black and Schofield I thought they had shorn up the midfield, had potentially a champion CHF in Pavlich, a couple of handy backs in Mcpharlin and Polak and some good young players in Headland Schammer and in my opinion one of the best Capitano's in the league in Bell. The spine and midfield looking great, excuses weren't going to be a requirement, cos I thought u even had the depth to cover loses, alas Port last year....

my humble opinion as an observer from over the border is C Connelly....
not getting enough out of a lot of players....

Boy if only Worsfold opted to coach u guys, u might be where Wet Toast are now cos Iam adamant u have a better list.

Injuries makes things difficult but its a cop-out to blame players not on the field. Firstly, there have been several games where Fremantle had basically a full squad but still lost EG Richmond game. Secondly you don't take into account injuries to opposition players. The Fremantle players never fired a shot in that last quarter vs the Roos. Can't blame the injured players for that. For one reason or another your players out on the field are underachieving. Its up to the coaching staff to fix it. If they can't fix it you need to find someone who can!

You have had a lot of injuries this year and Connolly makes some puzzling decision at times. I think you'll find that my opinion is a widely held one around the league.

I've actually been thinking about this on the weekend, and I come up with the following angle, which I have not heard before:

It is easier to blood / carry new players in a team that consistently does well over a long period. By saying a team, does well, I'm not talking premierships or being in the Top 4 every year....

Blooding players in a winning type team, means you can "carry" a new player and not throw them "to the wolves".

Therein lies the conundrum at Freo, they have a self-fulfilling phrophecy of:

The team doesn't do well, so its harder to "make a player", which in turn means its harder for the team to get better, which means its harder to "make a player".......

Hence the reason that Rich, Dogs, Saints, Demons, Cats, Swans haven't won a flag in most people here's lifetime. You need a couple of kids to really take off, excellent coaching or lucky trading to break the cycle. Sydney almost did it with Barassi then Plugger. The Dogs almost did it with Grant/West/Johnson/Smith but did get there. The Cats almost did it with Blight/Ablett/Riccardi etc etc. The Eagles are doing it with Judd joining Kizons, Wirra & Matera and having Fletcher, Embley, Hansen, Glass & Hunter exceed most peoples expectations from a few years ago.

Freo have failed in that our kids are looking OK, but it's the senior guys not being consistant. It's no surprise that when Carr, Black, Hase, Bell, Pav have good days, we win. When only one or two of them (Pav and someone else generally) play well, we lose. Mundy, Johnson, Dodd, Crowley etc aren't going to win us a flag on their own.
