Where to sit at the Gabba in a day game?

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

I will be at the West Coast game for my first Gabba game for many years. I remember cooking in the sun many years ago.

What sections should I order on that Tickertec abomination?

It isn't a night game.
If you do try to order on Ticketek please do let us know how you get on.

Come and sit with me in section 431.

Failing that, anywhere in the marked area will be in the shade on a day game.

This is not exactly in line with the thread but since it has to do with seating I thought I'd put it in here.

Yesterday was the Members-only opportunity for fans to buy tickets for, among other things, away games at the MCG, with today being opened to the General Public. I tried getting into the system yesterday using the link sent by the Club using the Member Zone/Members Ticketing Hub to buy tickets for the R4 Richmond game at the MCG. Ticketek controls MCG ticket sales.

Even before the ticket sales commenced yesterday, I looked online at Ticketek and it appeared that there were only 3 or 4 ground-level blocks immediately behind one goal area, plus one level 2 block out towards the 50m arc line, on offer to members, with no other options. I'm not a fan of sitting behind the goals, especially at the MCG since you can't see what's happening at the other end of the ground if you're down near the fence (not to mention problems with the cheer squad and others constantly jumping up and obscuring vision generally - I don't mind watching the cheer squad from afar but up close does strain things a bit). When I got through the queue yesterday, choice was limited to only one ground-level block immediately behind the point post, and I decided to forego this and try the General Public offering today.

I made the error of going through the Lions Members Ticketing Hub first-up today and was offered the same single goal-line block as per yesterday, so logged directly into Ticketek, waited though the queue once more, and finally was offered expanded seating over the few goal-line blocks and the Level-2 block mentioned above. I managed to secure four seats in Level 2 (not without having a couple of tries due to Visa payment confirmation code not arriving before Ticketek timed me out)!

So all ended OK, but what really peeves me is the paltry restricted offering to away-members - not sure who of AFL/MCG/Ticketek is behind this but it seems that away club members are being screwed heaps with very substandard offerings.

Whinge over . . . almost! I should add that after experiencing the AFL's total take-it-or-leave-it seat offerings in the 2023 Grand Final, I have no intention of attending another GF while that system operates. At least with the minor-round and other finals games, you have the option of refusing.

I just had a look at swapping seats for the West Coast game because it is outrageous that we are playing at midday in March and I don't want to be cooked alive, but there are really no seats of interest other than sitting basically at the back.

Not looking forward to it.

At the vast majority of Brisbane games at the MCG (basically every game apart from finals) I reckon the GA option is best. Then you can basically go sit wherever you like.
