I'm so committed to this preview that I'm going to VOLUNTARILY commit myself to watching Carlton v Port tonight, in perhaps the greatest matchup ever: a STOPPABLE FORCE versus a MOVABLE OBJECT.
We play them both in the next couple of weeks off the bye.
So, I really hope this call is correct.

I’ll watch it with you Tom

Not sure where this should go, but Voss is being treated like a dog. Unfair and uncalled for. Maybe assistant coach is his level? A legend of our club. I wonder if he'll still be there by the time we face them at Marvel. Actually, hurts a wee bit... but always hoping we smash his teams if we face them.

I heard on a podcast (can't remember which one) that voss has been their most successful coach of the last 20 years based on win loss record.

Definately a good reason to get rid of him and allow Carlton to once again sink like a stone.

Below from footywire in Win % order. Just the current coaches

Voss coaching
Blues 86 games 45 wins 40 losses 1 draw 52.3%
Lions 109 Games 43 wins 65 losses 1 Draw 39.45%
Pretty hard he had over 50% apart from this year.
Not a good run home

Can we get him in as an assistant? Full circle...
Think with Dewey now forwards coach, Cotchin helping out one day a week, we have the best mix of coaching staff in the competition. (In my opinion)
Loved Vossy as a player and captain of our club but coaching may not be his gig.

We will start overwhelming favourites in our next 2 games v Port and the Blues, we should win and must win with such a cramped ladder fighting for top 4. We have an extremely tough run home after that > Bulldogs(H), Suns(A), Pies(A), Swans(H), Dockers(A), Hawks(H). With the Swans getting good players back they are playing near their best, even they will be a very tough assignment.

Lions 42 > Port - Blues
Crows 40 > Demons - Bulldogs
Cats 40 > Tigers - Giants
Hawks 40 > Saints - Dockers
Dockers 40 > Swans - Hawks

Bulldogs, Suns, Giants 36.

FWIW I think the Suns will be the ones to miss the 8 although no one is safe in the top 8 except the Pies.

2. BRISBANE LIONS (10-4-1, 113.4%)

Remaining games

Round 17:
Port Adelaide at the Gabba

Round 18: Carlton at Marvel Stadium

Round 19: Western Bulldogs at the Gabba

Round 20: Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium

Round 21: Collingwood at the MCG

Round 22: Sydney Swans at the Gabba

Round 23: Fremantle at Optus Stadium

Round 24: Hawthorn at the Gabba

Remaining fixture difficulty: Hardest

The good news for the premiers is we know they can win the flag from outside the top four. And they might have to, because this draw is tough, and they can’t even automatically bank wins at the Gabba like they used to - they’re 12-7 at home since the start of last year, after going 48-4 across the 2019-23 home and away seasons. But this Brisbane group has plenty experience at the pointy end, so they’re primed to take advantage of younger teams like Adelaide, Fremantle, Hawthorn and Gold Coast slipping up. In particular those final two games against the Dockers and Hawks will almost certainly be important for finals seeding, or maybe even a finals place period. Is there some chance the Lions miss the eight? Absolutely; you could argue they’re only favourites in half of their remaining games, with the rest of them toss-ups or worse. But four wins will absolutely lock them into September and especially after last week’s upset in Geelong (even if that was a bit fortunate), we have enough trust in Brisbane to back them.

Fox Footy’s projection: 14.85 wins, finishing 4th

Obviously top 4 is better than not top 4 blah blah blah but I think my nightmare is finishing 4th and playing collingwood in an away qualifying final. Even if we somehow won the pies could come back round and get through to the grand final.

Perfect. Beat the Pies week one at the G and strike fear the rest of the finals teams.
