Which position do you see Marsh playing?

Hes actually faster than i thought he would be
In the game against geelong, one of there players had the ball on there back flank and he sprinted from full forward to forward flank insanely fast. Unlike Mooney(who should start using his speed more during the whole game instead of in glimpses) he actually uses his speed during the game.
He is easily one of the fasted current AFL players.
As for his position, he is somewhere between 190-194 cm tall, so he isnt limited for capable positions, watching him during the games. Played WAFL as a CHF, kicked 20 goals in 13 games, but he kicked 37 behinds, a positive out of that is that he had almost 60 shots on goal in 13 games against men. He seems to like himself as a midfielder which is where id like to play him, as a contested best like Josh P Kennedy, except with the ability when needed to play a dangerous outside role.
First of all we need to teach him how to kick, then if he can have a good kick we could use him as a utility switching between roles like Key Forward, 3rd tall, Forward Flank, Wingman, inside mid, back flanker, 3rd tall defender and Key defender.
If his kicking becomes good my preference is that he becomes a inside midfielder swapping between the wing and having spells in the forward 50 as a serious leading forward threat.

We should try keep a lid on things :p... still a very real chance he will never play more than a few AFL games.

Very raw prospect, at least 3 years away from causing opposition headaches at best imo.
If he is still on the list in 3 years I'll be shocked.

I'm glad this got brought up. The guy is an absolute monster, he sees himself as a midfielder, but he stands head and shoulders over most of our Fwds. If we can turn this guy into a Franklin/Jesse White type fwd, he could run riot for many years. Just needs to get a bit smarter and learn how to stick his tackles. I'm Excited about this guy

Wow. I'm glad we somehow managed to draft the next Buddy with pick 77 in a shallow draft.

Players that show glimpses of brilliance in their youth most often develop in to brilliant players with good coaching and hard work.
Marsh has got talent but some coaching and training to do give him a couple of years to catch up and we'll have a ripper on our hands. Patience required with this ones the drama queens need to sit aside and let him get ready he's gonna go nuts in a couple of years and grabbing him at77 now will be worth it cos by end of this year he'd be a top 10 if he went back in to the draft.

pure, raw athleticism and mind boggling pace is all he's got at the moment, its a good foundation but he has to develop the smarts and skills. An interesting project but a long way off as yet. Can't help making comparisons with Mooney, amazing athletically but a spud when it comes to game intelligence, at the beginning anyway. Could be a miracle pick or a complete miss fire and it is going to probably take at least 3 years to find out.

Sorry to intrude but i'm pretty sure he did that in the colts, he has never played a WAFL game.

I know someone who has seen him develop in WA.

His biggest problem is up stairs, he tends to focus on what goes wrong, not what goes right and can go very quiet when he stuffs up. As a raw talent he is very exciting, to the point where he was expected to go early second round at one stage before drifting. Some of this is put down to him being required to play as a forward when he had spent most of his juniors as a midfield/half back.

Even at the local level he was the sort of kid who could hardly have touched the ball and then would kick 7 in a quarter. Given his pace and size I think it will take time for him to find balance and poise but if we get him right he would be a lethal weapon. If not, we wasted pick 77, no big deal.

46. Jonathon Marsh
Statistics: 11 kicks, 10 marks, 11 handballs, 22 disposals, 0 clearances, 1 inside 50, 3 rebound 50s, 1 tackle Dale Tapping Says: Developing as a key defender. He has come along really, really well. He is finding the balance of when to defend and when to attack. That’s the growth area for him.

Decent stats from a key back post, hopefully we have take his kicking back to the basics so he could play this role maybe more in the future.

Was in the top 5 for the game. Took about 5-6 intercept marks and 3 of them would have been contested. Read the ball really well and took on the play.

He seems to make better decisions when he takes on the play rather than when he is stagnant like after taking a mark or receiving a handball whilst flat footed.

I like the comparison with J Kennedy.
If all Marsh offers is a defensive option and size to keep, Fyffe, Munday, Hill, Barlow or similar in check then he is filling a HUGE need.

Mick Gaffer and Presti couldn't kick, but also lacked the speed and athleticism that Marsh has - Jonno's kicking was horrendous early on but he turned it around.

This combination of size and athleticism doesn't grow on trees and can be a huge weapon - its worth persisting with him.

8 games into a 2-3yr project. What's the rush? He will more likely disappoint than impress this first year so let's just expect that and hope the improvement comes later. Anything else is a bonus.

That there is really encouraging. I saw his best chance as developing into a tall tagger with pace to stay with even the quickest mids eg: Danger.
To see him doing a solid job in a defensive role though is very pleasing.
With his athletic attributes he could be extremely damaging on the rebound IF we could iron out his kicking deficiencies, which isn't out of the realm of possibility.
What we can count on is that he's in the best development program in the league so it's highly likely we'll see at least something eventuate from his ridiculous amount of natural talent.

I really like that Marsh is getting a grounding in defence. It teaches the basics better than playing forward. Particularly as a player with the 'inconsistent' tag, defence you need to contest every contest, your responsibilities are clear. I think playing forward can be harder , less chances to make the most of building a basic game and confidence in defence is good for most players (think Reid the building of his game in defence made so much the better player that when he went forward again he had the game)

This VFL game we won too easy to read too much into the stats. But Marsh is one of the most intriguing prospects on the list. Upside potential is large, but no rush build his game so he is a rounded player.
