I didn't know this rule...

" the AFL rule that allows clubs to nominate a player for elevation in the absence of a veteran."

http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/106586/default.aspx

Quite a few in the mix. Will they be all left as rookies for a while, or will we promote one early? And if so, who?

One of Hicks or O'Reilly would be my choice. I don't suppose they can be demoted once they have been elevated, so waiting until we see some preseason form should give us idea on who's coming on, and who isn't?

I think we're allowed two in the absence of a veteran and one if we have a veteran on the list. Hicks and Contin for mine, although we've got one more rookie to add to the list.

Does footy season end:confused:

I wish it never did, but unfortunately it does. :(

But as to you're OP, I highly doubt Hicks will be first promoted, reports from the club aren't very glowing for the young man, be on the lookout for young Pat Contin, apparently training the best out of all the Rookies, he would be my first pick for a elevation.

1 must believe that both Miller & Hislop will be the nominated rookie upgrades otherwise why even select them.

My understanding is we are allowed 2 on to the playing list from round 1 due to no vetrans & 1 more after round 11 without injury replacements.

.

I also considered Miller...then thought he is an injury reserve so probably won't be upgraded unless (heaven forbid) it happens.

On Hislop, fair point-just hoping it doesn't happen.

I also rememer now coaches comments last month were that Hicks wasn't progressing as hoped. I'll stick with Paddy then!

Crazy idea, but let's see how people go in preseason first.

Even crazier idea....being a forum of discussion where predictions and opinions on how players have performed in the past, with not a lot of other news about, why not discuss it now?

Maybe you prefer just to look at training photos and talk about who has put on a few extra kilos!

I simply brought to the attention a rule I didn't know about, and maybe others didn't either, that because we don't have a mature age player, we will be able to promote a rookie onto our list.

I'ts definately going to be Contin's turn and the other spot will be left for Miller if needed early in the year.

i'm sure Miller will get every chance to make a spot his own in the front half during the pre season...the other would be between Contin, hicks, o'rielly, hislop...couldn't find a fav amongst them...tommy is recovering still from knee ops dont think he'd be up to where say contin is in terms of fitness

Not too early because 2 months can just fly by should have O'Rielly promoted

IMO I think O'Reilly will take another couple of years of maturing to take a spot in the best 22, he only got a look in after Farmer went down with injury and we needed to fill that small BP player spot.

Was very impressed by the couple of games he played last year, but I think it will take a lot of outstanding form to fit him into the 22 at the moment.

BP - Newman FB - Gourdis/McGuane BP - Moore/Farmer

HBF - Deledio/Batchelor - CHB Astbury - Connors
