Anyone been a part of this experience? Or even tried it?

You get a couple of guys with no boxing experience, train them up and let them go at it over a few rounds.

Like a cross between 'Fight Club' and regular boxing.

A mate back in Ireland went along to support a workmate of his. He said it was full on. A lot of the spectators, especially women, had never been to a boxing match before and were shocked at the brutality.

Maybe we could have our own version instead of the GD debating. I will meet you outside the MCG before the Bulldogs - Collingwood match. I will versus you at boxing. I am 85 kilos. Bring your own gloves.

When I was an accounting trainee, we had a client up in Taree who used to be a kickboxer and had opened up a boxing gym. I was up there for a few days visiting with my supervisor, who was a couple of years older, and this bloke kept pestering us until we agreed to get in the ring together.

Neither of us had ever boxed before so we got about an hour training each and then jumped in the ring. This is a Koori gym so there are about a dozen massive aboriginals standing around watching these two white accountants have a crack at each other and pissing themselves.

Nothing full on, just a bit of sparring for a laugh but was a lot of fun. The biggest problem I had was with the guards - I've done taekwondo my whole life and the guards for boxing are just completely counterintuitive. Boxing's a very unique sport.

I seen something like this when i was in the Philipinnes. They had amatuer local boxers matched up against a drunken tourist. They would offer money to anyone to step in the ring against these fighters. It was good for a laugh and obviously the filipino boxer always won.

Can you elaborate on this mate?

I do a little boxing and am curious on the differences, because I'm sure if I were to get into a random fight, my legs would be demolished....as would ze balls

TKD is very much a lower body sport so your stance and guard are designed in order to position you best to throw kicks. You sit in a side-on stance with your weight back to avoid your front leg being swept. One arm (usually the right) guards the solar plexus and the other is cocked so your elbow is down low enough to protect your ribcage, and your fist is just below eye level.

With your typical boxing stance I found I kept dropping my right too much, which made me the perfect target for left crosses, and especially hooks. In boxing it seems to be all about the head - blows to other parts of the body seem mostly to open up a clean shot. I kept forgetting that.

Read about it in a book called "the zeroes"
