who comes out of the team to make way for duigan, warnock, walker and jamison?

Duigan - Russell, didnt show enough when given the oppurtunity, i know he is still rusty but didnt seize the chance
warnock - ...
walker - ...
jamison - ...

Russell put in a shocker. I have no idea what's wrong with the guy. Used to be seriously quick, and last night even struggled to run down Martin who's not the quickest of footballers. His defensive efforts on Cotchin were terrible. Is it injury? Confidence? I really hope he turns it around, but he was a weak link out there last night, and Duigan is the obvious replacement. Apart from that all the others, need to prove themselves. i.e. earn a spot.

:)

Yeah you would have to say Russell

After that it get's tough. Players that are on the fringe I think that played last night are. (doesn't mean i don't rate there game or think there best 22)

Russell
Curnow
Bower
Armfield
Lucas
Touhy
Armfield
Hampson (Only because of the 3 ruckmen thing)

Think they all played great games except for Russell. Tough year for match committee! Think this year if you have 2 average games your out. Not a bad thing either with each player pushing themselves to improve to keep there spot.

duigan - russell
warnock - no one as yet; team balance was good
walker - thorton
jamison - bower
joseph - maybe toughy; only cos I felt he got lost last night but that is something he can turn around quickly.

We're playing interstate on a Thursday,

If Duigan ready I would think he might be in for Russell and no other changes;

I would give Jamison this weekend VFL
Warnock 2 to 3 weeks VFL
Walker still 2-3 weeks away with injury so he might come straight in or play 1 VFL game.

So I think Rd 2 one change Russell out, Duigan In... other change could depend if Waite gets rubbed out.

Yeah, no need to rush players back. Wait until they are 100%

Once we have a full list to select from I think the changes from lat night will be as follows:

Out: Russell, Tuohy, Thornton
In: Jamison, Walker, Duigan

I'm not sure Warnock will be able to break into the side if Hammer and Krooz keep up their performances.
I think Tuohy and Russell were poor last night.
And Thornton will be unlucky, but you need to bring Walker back in for someone.

With thursday game next week i wouldnt expect either of Jamo or Duigan to come back in on short rest. Wouldnt be surprised to go in with the same side with Russell as sub and Lucas to get a full game.

As for Russell, he looks a shell of the player he was. Seems to be a confidence thing, doesnt back himself. Did a couple of nice things but need more output from him.

This, except I think Thornton would keep his spot ahead of Bower. He offers greater versatility

Had a little re-watch this morning and cannot underline enough how important Curnow was when the going got tough in the last quarter...throwing himself into contests with reckless abandon, blocks, shepherds, tackles, important little knock ons and just bobbed up everywhere. His elite endurance was a real asset at a time when most were blowing pretty hard.

As with Laids, so easy to forget that this guy has only a dozen games under the belt. Put himself clearly ahead of the chasing pack for mine, and he will take some catching.

As for the thread well yes Rusty was just that, but wouldn't be averse to giving him another week to see if he can get something going. Duigan isnt an automatic selection for mine coming off an interrupted pre-season.

With Bower doing well down back and Hampson doing well up forward I would question Thornton's place in the team...could make way for AW come the time.

Cannot see a need for three tall backs against a Brown-less Brisbane so Bower may be unlucky if Jamo returns, but I get the feeling we will find room for him.

Warnock will need a decent stretch in the VFL I think, so can worry about that problem in a few weeks time.

Honestly don't know.
Wasn't impressed with Robinson, Russell or Tuohy but Rusty is the only one I'd like to see dropped. Robinson and Tuohy are worth persisting with.

Warnock is our best ruckman IMO as he demonstrated in the finals last year. Hampson could play more permanently as a forward and Kreuzer as 2ndruck/rover. All in all I reckon there'll be a max of 2 changes for next week.

Touhy is a bona-fide star in the making..got the super pace, booming & precise kicking skills,..is really strong & hard at the pill and is improving at a rate of knots..we need to persist with him, allow his confidence to kick-in... for a big ''payoff'' as the season progresses

Player management starts from round 1. We aren't a bottom 8 side who need their best 22 on at all times if they aren't needed.

I expect the club will commence resting players from next week.

i think it will be more of a case of horses for courses and play certain players when the situation (weather, match-ups, injuries) dictates....

Especially for role players like Joseph, McLean and Ellard (ducks the incoming barrage from WABlues cohorts...)

On last night's showing, does anyone see Mclean cracking a game, especially when it would seem Curnow (and possibly Ellard) are ahead on a number of levels?

Its going to be tough for the selectors. Jamo, Warnock and Walker are still a couple of weeks of being match fit so it gives players another couple of games to cement their spot in the best 22. Only player i can see at the moment getting dropped would be Russel>Duigan.

Jammo & Duigan are both playing in the VFL on Saturday, That gives them only 4 days between games as we play Brisbane in Brisbane on Thursday night,
I'm not so sure either of them will play in the seniors next week,
Jono Brown is still out so Jammo is not a necessity, I am more than happy with Hendo doing the job down back for us,
Rest Jammo another week and unleash him against the Pies in round three, same goes for duigan.

Round two changes:
Out: Jordan Russell.
In: Marcus Davies.

Round Three Changes:
Out: Marcus Davies & Paul Bower.
In. Nic Duigan & Michael Jamison.

Walker is still three weeks away, When he is ready to come back I'd assume maybe Thornton makes way for Tex.

The only way I see Warnock getting a senior game this season is if Hampson is rested, besides that Warnock is GWS bound.

This.

No way he gets dropped.

ins -
Jamo, Duigan, McLean

outs -
Russell, Touhy, Curnow

was it just me? I thought Curnow was shit last night. Made so many errors with his handballs and i just felt he is not up to standard. Has not been the same since he got injured Vs the saints

Is Russell 100%? Looked pretty average out there.

Thorntons marking was fantastic up forward. Should definately keep him in the team as he can play forward or back and is good insurance if our Rucks give us nothing up forward or one of our backs goes down.

-Army was a great contributer
-Must pump games into 2E
-Curnow has a real crack

When Jamo is back we are going to look really good. Hendo did a great job on Reiwoldt who is one of the best forwards...imagine how good it will be when he gets the second best forward.

No changes next week. Sends the wrong message if you get dropped for making a couple of errors in your first game for the year. Need to show more faith in the players. The last thing you want is the the Ross Lyon revolving door selection policy where players are in one week, out the next and then back in the week after. Does nothing for the confidence.

Get 200 minutes of footy into Duigan and Jamo so they are match fit for the pies.

This :thumbsu:

First up, these players earned their spot over the pre-season ahead of all others (Jamo, Duigan, Warnock, Walker excepted). You have to give them a chance. Especially since they nearly all contributed.

Russell would be the only possibility this week, but I'd much rather give him another shot. If he were to be dropped, whoever comes in would be wearing the green vest.
