Hmm with all the talk about our fantastic trading and the draft coming up, we have kind of forgetton about Mckay's likely upcoming retirement.
Frankly I don't think we've got a lot of choice in the captaincy area at the moment, but I'd like to see Kouta get the gig for a couple of years, until Jarrad Waite (whom I can see captaining this side for 10 years or me, he has a huge heart and character) takes over.
I don't think frankly, that Whitnall is captaincy material. Campo is my other choice.

What do u guys think ?

Big Red will get the gig and do a fine job for the next decade....kouta's not interested and campo has no chance....remember whitnall has been very unlucky with injuries the last two years....he's training right now and will be the fittest he's ever been come feb/march....and about time too, because he's done himself NO favours in the past by turning up at pre season training looking like a model for sara lee.:D

Barring retirement, Macca, otherwise Whitnall with Waite VC.
A year or two ago I would've said Kouta with Campo VC, but they've only got a few years left in the game now sadly.

Give it to Kouta for his last 2 years and hope like hell a new leader comes from the new players this year, this would give Kouta some addtional responsibility that may swing him back round.
He has definately been a negative influence (towards the coach) this year but Pagan should bring him closer.

Campo whines too much to be a good captain, could be too much of a Richo with his on field antics...although Gregan is captain of the aussie union team so you never know! Give it to Lance i say, as long as fat camp works this year

How so? I really don't know what you mean. He has a new role under Pagan, being a bit more 'in and under' and all.

I think he did say at one stage that he would like to captain carlton. But with contract negotiations being a bit negative (is that what u mean electric blue?) and not really regaining his explosive best form, i'd like to see him concentrate solely on being the best player he can for Carlton.

I don't think age has much to do with it - Bradley and McKay got it when in their 30s - and the captain could come from left field, being one of the kids.

Lance would have to prove that he's got some good footy in him first to have the captaincy on his head.

This is all if McKay retires, and however unlikely, he still might play on.

Kouta has spent a lot of time complaining about Pagan this year and was telling people he would walk out on the club if need be.
The amazing thing about Kouta is that it hasn't greatly affected his football this year, he has been terriffic as an in and under type. If he was given some extra responsibility it might change his mind frame from negative to a positive influence.

I'm not totally knocking Kouta here, he has worn much of the scorn re salry cap problems due to his back ended contract.

Steven Lawrence captain, with Haydn Beetham his deputy, both via the pre-season draft. Imagine the social life.

Kouta lacks the leadership (though his on-field exploits do speak volumes); Lance has to prove his output and longevity match his early-career potential (and he's crap with the media); Campo has never really been seriously mentioned as leadership material. The club obviously knows more than the rest of us. But, from the other side of the fence, he seems to have a lot of the attributes. He mouths off to umpires and opponents no more than Buckley. He handles himself well off the field ... he's even had a gig on talking footy, for god's sake. He's certainly been paid enough to do it!

So Campo, with Kouta, Big Red, Bulldog Hulme or perhaps Nick Stevens v.c.

Fevalenko will be too busy taking Laurie for toilet training.

Nice post kenny.

The idea of Campo as captain doesn't sound too bad, especially if it lifts his game a bit - and with more 'talent' around him in the midfield, he should be a better player in the future.

He actually handled himself well on talking footy, something I didn't expect at all. I've never really heard him anywhere else apart from that though, not sure if thats because of Carltons media ban or personal preference.

Knobber Hamill said on the same program that he reckoned Campo was captain material when Wilson asked him. At 28 he still has a few years of good footy ahead of him, too. I don't think its too bad of an idea.

Anyone else? :)
