Hi, I'm a huge rugby league fan, but I do like a bit of Aussie Rules thanks to my Victorian girlfriend who insisted I watch it. I would have to say my fave player in the five or six years I've been watching AFLwould have to be Andrew Dunkley. I don't think you get a more wholehearted and tougher fullback in the modern game. I just loved the fact that the guy was a shocking kick, yet made up for his lack of skill in one area and supplemented it with other great skills.

Any other "Dunks" fans out there? He's a better kicker than Gorden Tallis though (wouldn't be hard)

Not many fullbacks like dunks left, unfortunately. I actually reckon he was a decent kick - he just looked really un-co when he did it :) His shots for goal were hopeless, but I always found that when he was forced to kick out of defence, more often than not he would find a teammate with his pass. His style looked pretty awkward, but usually went more or less where he wanted.

And of course, strong enough and brilliant overhead.

This is why we're struggling against the classic big strong full forwards in a one-on-one situation - we have to rely on midfield pressure to stop good delivery in the first place.

When i started following footy i wasn't really sure who or what an andrew dunkley was, but the way my dad and his mates talked, he must have been a bit of a shocker. Or so I thought. In his time at the club he was probably our most consistent player and I think it is possible to count the number of times he got truly beaten on your fingers and still have some to spare. I was also very interested to note he actually won the club's best first year player way back in 1992, which shows he must have been doing something right from day one i would say, even if we were pretty bad in those days.

Now all we have to do is wait for his kiddies to get a bit taller and then the F/S rule should come in very handy!

You obviously didn't see Gorden Tallis kick a conversion from the sideline.

Seriously though, I thought that Dunks was one player who you could really depend on and that his retirement meant bigger shoes to fill than even Paul Kelly. He was so vital in our backline.

Dunks is a champ and it's great to hear that he's playing in the oldies State of Origin game against S.A.

I'd love to get video footage of all his goals for the swans 9 in total?). He's last one was against the bombers last year and he got one against against stkilda in the 2000 season opener.

He had a good swans mullet at one stage too.

crooked rain crooked rain!!

Dunkley is one of the best Fullbacks of recent times. And i do agree that his kicking wasn't all that bad, he just earned a reputation as a poor kicker because he looked as comfortable as a fish driving an 18-wheeler when he tried to put boot to ball.
