Basically, every year a club must delist or trade away 3 players as a club must use 3 draft picks. In Collingwoods case for 2005 we recieved Chad Morrison, meaning 4 players must be moved on. As we wish to promote Nick Maxwell and Zane Leonard to the senior list we must move 6 players on.

So, unless Collingwood pulls a shock delisting like Mullins or King etc we cannot promote either Leonard or Maxwell onto the list.

Mick Malthouse has said before that draft picks shouldn't be wasted or passed on because kids only have one shot of making it at the AFL and he would feel guilty not using picks. I see this as meaning he wouldn't redraft any players once they are delisted.

My guess and wish would be:
Gone (off the list):
Ben Kinnear
Steve McKee
Andrew Williams
Bo Nixon
Luke Shackleton
Total=5

Arrived(on the list):
Chad Morrison
Travis Cloke (3rd round draft pick)
Nick Maxwell
Zane Leonard
1st Round Draft Pick
2nd Round Draft Pick
Total=6

This means one more player must be delisted to fit in with A.F.L rules.

Infact there's a "feeling" that O'Bree maybe in Collingwood's leadership group next year.
Which is staggering given that he struggles to be play league footy at an acceptable standard let alone have leadership duties , the only way I can reason it is that they're hoping the responsibility will be a kick up the arse for him and he'll have to lift quite abit.

Well lets hope it is.

The thing that annoys me about OB is that he CAN play, and bloody well too.

His 2000 and 2001 seasons were almost faultless, and I even remember saying to my girlfriend "This guy is our answer to Bucks when he goes."

Not such a stupid comment when you remember how well he played those years, averaging well over 20 touches a game.

Please God PLEASE get us the old O'Bree back... :(

I am not sure if this could kick O'Bree into gear, I guess if they did put him into the Leadership group, it would be one of his final shots, I would expect.

We won't be promoting Zane Leonard. One, we don't have to and two, what the hell has he done anyway?!

We will likely be delisting, moving on, despite my protestations re. Goog the following players:

Bo Nixon
Ben Kinnear
Steve McKee
Andrew Williams
Luke Shackleton
Luke Mullins

The bottom three will be announced today. Hopefully I'm slightly wrong.

Regardless, this allows for the following pick ups:

Chad Morrison
Nick Maxwell (Scott Burns to veterans list)
Travis Cloke
First Round Pick
Second Round Pick
Fourth Round Pick
Fifthe Round or Pre-Season Draft Pick

Due to Scotty going to veterans, we'll be picking up seven players, Nick Maxwell, literally for nothing.

We'll have picked up a pretty handy player in Morrison. A probable top 20 pick in Travis Cloke. A proven solid young defender in Nick Maxwell. Possibly a half decent disgruntled footballer. And a few kids with potential.

Probably not too bad, but it would look quite nice if they flicked Lokan instead of Mullins!

Three: Why not, he could be a better pick up to what we would get with a 4th rounder. He has pace to burn... Forgive me if im wrong but thats kinda what we lack IMO

We can keep him on the rookie list for another year. Then, if his form suggests, we can pick him up for free ala Maxwell.

We've got Bucks & Burns on the vets list. This means that for any rookie to have a kick, someone must go down with a long term injury. It's unfortunate, but it's likely that someone will and that the best rookie, possibly Zane, can have a kick in the ones if they're good enough.

As yet, he ain't done nothing and I'm sure he'd be happy to be retained as a rookie, although he's allowed to nominate for the draft (remembering he was overlooked for three drafts so I suggest he might stick with us).

What we get as a fourth rounder, could be another Julian Rowe. Forgive me if I'm wrong, but if we don't have to pcik Leonard in this draft, wouldn't we want the chance to nab another Rowe??

We can keep him on the rookie list for 2 years - so no need to promote him yet, unless they thought he was in our best 22 for Rd 1 2005, which is unlikely. If we get a long term injury next year, he will be 1st cab off the rank.

I posted this on another thread while ago. I reckon it'll still pan out that way. They wont get rid of O'Bree.

As far as de-listings go, we need to free up at least 4 spots. 3 for the National draft and another for the PSD. If we want to promote Zane Leonard, David Fanning and Nick Maxwell, that's another 3. If Buckley moves onto the Veteran's list outside of 38, as opposed to being included this year, that clears up one spot. I thought Burnsy had to turn 30 by September 30 this year. You can't count Nixon because of Morrison coming in. If you add and subtract all those figures we need to delist 6. That is a tough task. The six I would suggest would be: Schacks, McKee, Kinnear (retired), Williams, Mullins and Swan. If we only promoted, say, one of the rookies then we wouldn't have to de-list Swan and Mullins. We have invested too much into Swan to disgard him now. He showed a lot of promise when he came into the side when we had all those injuries at the start of the year. Mullins also looked promising when he played those couple of games. It's a tough business de-listing players. If we did get rid of Swan, you would just never know if we're giving away a very good player. I say make the lists 40 or 42 again.

I just looked through our list then. I reckon there is a bit of talent to work with there. The media scribes will write us off and good luck to them, but we have the players there, bar big injuries, to make an impact next season.

You know, as much as I don't want it to be true, and I know that it's not the likely thing, the drop in performance of Shane O'Bree actually may be consistent with a kind of depression. Just a subtle decline in performance over time, displaying a kind of apathy in his performance.

In fact, it's just dime store psychiatry, but if it ends up being true, you've heard it here first.

Vinnie, what decline in performance over time have you detected in O'Bree?

I recall that he had a very good first half of his first year and fell away markedly in the latter part of the year. After that I recall the odd high possession game and a couple of cameo's up forward in 2003 but they have been few and far between for a very long time. His majority performances say out and out dud. His best say good accumulator with average disposal. On that basis he should be delisted and a Mullins/Shak etc retained. Even if they are average we lose very little.

Honestly we are going to keep O'Bree who at best will get 30 uncontested possession and kick half of them 60m - 30 up and 30 across - while we delist a teenager who at worst wont take up 15 to 20 games to put in 3 or said 30 possession games.
