Because they haven't had a cup since 1954!

Now I have my ice breaker out of the way:o

I didn't mean that to be a troll, in all seriousness this thread is about the Dogs chances the next few years for a premiership in gaining a key forward.

I would say time is running pretty thin considering the issues with the draft and GC17 coming up in the future.

Would the Bulldogs be happy with a player like 'Tom Longeran' who is 24 years old, still has potential and room to grow but gets about 3-4 goals per game or would you go for a big guy like Barry Hall, or would you take another risk like with Jade Rawlings (sorry to bring him up) and go for a tall and throw him down forward?

If so who would you be prepared to give up and why?

Cheers.

PS: Good luck next year, Dogs have won my respect! :thumbsu:

I don't think Lonegan is a 3-4 game a goal player. He's about a one goal a game player maybe two if that, not the answer would be a good compliment as he is at Geelong to a true power foward

I would love...JUST FOR ONCE...if our young forwards developed into stars.
Grant and Boumann would be a great combination with Cordy helping out down there.
Only problem is all three really need to pack on the muscle.
Looks like we'll be going for someone this trade week though...
Wouldnt mind someone like Boyle to give our forward line some structure.

Could Boyle be Rawlings all over again?!

As a doggies fan, I sort of feel like the ugly brother who gets offers from the girls that his good looking brother isn't interested in, because they're not good enough for him, but good enough for me...

Seriously, Lonergan isn't much of a player. We don't just need tall blokes, we need a couple quality talls.

Lonegan is alright and still about 18 months behind in development because off the major injury he had. I put him at about the same development as a 22 year old because off his time out. Anyway from what I have seen he is a good kick, tall, has a leap, and just add a bit more bulk and you have a key forward for mine. Personally I would take him no problems. Not to mention he has kept Hawkins in the seconds. Don't forget Geelong like to play the decoy forward to free up Mooney. Unfortunately for him it means only one or two goals a game. It still worked well yesterday except Mooney couldn't kick straight.

Ray for Lonegan straight swap. Or Ray to somewhere else for second rounder and second rounder for Lonegan.

Lonergan would be absolutely destroyed as the key forward. He would take the number 1 defender and wouldnt get a touch. He plays well as a 2nd or third forward who gets under the guard but i dont think he will ever be a number one key forward.

The question isn't whether Lonergan is a true top-line KPP forward or not. The question is would he push anyone else out of our current best 22.

After he slept through 3 finals games, I'd say Welsh is struggling. I would have Lonergan ahead of him in a heartbeat. They are both smart footballers who run to the right spot, however Lonergan competes in the air whilst Welsh (especially in the 2nd half of the season) seems to get alot of crumbing goals which isn't something which is a glaring deficiency in the team. Lonergan fills more of a need for us at the moment then Welsh does.

That's not to mention that Lonergan could be overtaken by Grant or Cordy in 3-4 years time, and still provide a very good foil for him (as he does for Mooney now). If we could fashion a reasonable trade with the Cats, I'd take Lonergan without hesitation.

I wouldn't take Lonergen. We don't need tall forwards we need gun tall forwards and Lonergan isn't a gun. Tall guys who can play 3rd string are pretty easy to find. Especially someone like Lonergan who doesn't take contested marks but takes marks on the lead. Given the amount of delivery their midfield generates, someone like Tiller or Skipper might kick the same amount of goals with them as Lonergan.

I would rather develop our own gun forwards unless we can trade for a gun forward from another club. The chances of that happening are not great, therefore most of my attention is going into the draft rather than the trade.
