My first post so i apologise if it is a dud.

I read with great interest the passion of the Carlton supporters. When I was seven I wanted to support Essendon like my father. My grandfather who was born and bred Carlton told me he wouldn't speak to me until I promised to support Carlton for the rest of my life. Two weeks later I relented and have been a passionate supporter ever since.

Now I realise there will be comments from other teams supporters but I was curious as to other people's history as to why they began supporting Carlton?

My brother hit me when i was 4, because i followed the cats. First half of the 95 grand final i went for geelong, then got back handed....and hey presto.

It ****ing hurt....but it was worth it!

well my old man he goes for carlton, and from day one he brain washed me and ive stayed that way ever since.
but my mother is a saints supporter.
mums mum was dee's
dads dad was swans
dads mum was pies

so there u have it.

I'm the Black Sheep of the family, 1 brother follows Ninthmond, Mum and the other bro follow the Filth. The reason, to antogonise, but in reality......passion.

I go for the Blues because Matthew Hogg was (still is but we havn't lived in our house in Melbourne for 6 years, going back in 2 years though) my next door neighbour and he taught me how to kick a footy. He's a great bloke. Would often go outside and kick the footy with the kids from the street. Would often let me in his house and show me all his memorabilia and trophy room and stuff.

I nearly went for Essendon though because my dad supports them. When I was very young I went for both teams, then we had a footy day at school in like year 2 where I had to choose. The whole week I stressed about it and didn't know who to choose. Eventually, I went with Carlton, and went to school with a blue singlet with Sticks' number 4 made out of sticky tape on my back :thumbsu: That was the turning point.

Still can't believe dad let me choose the Blues (he gave me the whole "support whoever you want, I wont be dissapointed etc). There's no way my kid will support anyone other than Carlton haha. Moment he's born he'll be in a little Carlton beanie haha. Because it's actually a shame me and dad support different teams. Sometimes I really wish we did support the same team (him supporting Carlton obviously :p)

Basically the same.
I followed Adelaide in 96-98 (I liked the colours, I was 5-7 LOL).

Then my dad was like "You should barrack for the team your father does...." Guilt trip.

I remember saying "But you don't?" (Grandad goes for North).

haha glad he brainwashed me anyway. :D

Any inside goss on the McGuane incident?

Na mate, didn't even learn about it until a couple of years ago. I was too young at the time to know anything about the type of player he was or what he got up to. To me he was just a cool player who kicked a footy with me.

I was also a late developer to following footy so by the time I knew enough about it I was living outside of Melbourne. Move back in 2years though, could have some interesting conversations then

Easy - best club in the world.

Born and raised in Carlton and used to walk to the ground to watch them train and play as a kid.

Dad was Nth Melb and Mum was the Pies but all the kids are Carlton. This has flowed onto all my brothers and sister's kids who are all paid up Blues members.

I wasnt a pushy dad as l gave my eldest daughter a choice of either barrack for Carlton or dont eat - she chose wisely :D

The other 2 will follow suit!

I have a funny story of why I do.... I am from Perth and was at City Beach one afternoon when I was about 12.... Who did I happen to see? Anthony Koutoufides and Tanya Zieta? not sure how you spell her name (who dares win chick) They were there for a car rally or something... Anyways I went up to Kouta and asked for his Autograph and Tanya's **** knows why!

Anyways when I got his autograph he asked "who do you barrack for?" I quickly said... Carlton!
He goes "oh lots of people here seem to say they go for Carlton!"

I was young and didn't want to lie so I changed from the Eagles to Carlton! true story and haven't looked back, Kouta was my fav player and always will be, absolute gun!

I am also the black sheep in the family. Father and sister both barrack for the filth.:thumbsd: My father's part of the family is all Collingwood. Gladly my uncle, the only Carlton supporter in my family persisted in bringing me to Carlton. The battle over my younger brother has also resulted in a Carlton win!
Go Blues!:D

I think i would of been banished from the family if I tried to support any other teams. I remember the day my old man took my brothers and I to the Centenary Match at the MCG (1992 OR 1993?) It was the opening of the Great Southern stand and fortunately we pumped the Pies. Have been one eyed ever since that night.

wasnt that 2000 where fev booted a shitload of goals

Mum doesnt really follow football and for most of the time she was off interstate and me and my sister were left with our grandparents. My dad is a pom so he doesnt know shit about Aussie Rules.

Grandmother followed the filth, grandfather followed the bummers... they both tried to get me to support their respective teams by trying to get me to say Carn the pies or Carn the bombers...

One day I just came out with "I want to barrack for Ron Barrassi" who was then the captain coach of the blues and I thought that he was the best (I think that I was 5 or 6 at the time) and they were like you cant support him... and kept trying to get me to support their teams...

After a while they gave up and left me to it... The Brassarse left the club and I was devasated... hated his guts for years after but by then, you could cut me and I would bleed blue...

Never looked back from that day.
