An iinteresting point was made on MMM last night that Adelaide aren't necessarily fitter or stronger than their opponents, just better disciplined and more professional. When they have possession their set plays unfold brilliantly, with very rapid conversion from the contested possesion to scoring. Seeing Sheedy send Lucas to half-back and leaving the forward 50 without a leader last night I wonder if our younger players would be better served with a more reliable coaching strategy like theirs?

Sheedy maybe concentrating on having the young players doing all the littler things right first before having the whole team be totally 100% together.

Once we have a set 22, the young players know their roles better and we are ready for an assault on the top 4 then I think we'll see a more cohesive Bombers team.

I agree, they need to instill their second efforts into their game and look hungrier than ever before becoming potential stars

Moose- he is not the best coach around anymore, simple. Hearing some big wraps about Sumich around the traps; sitting next to Worsfold can't do his career any harm. Could be another option for the Dons next year or the year after as well as O'Donnell, Longmire etc.

What is his role at WCE? Certainly he knows a lot more about tough, physical footy than Gary Ayres but I really had thought O'Donnell had served out his apprenticeship well, maybe would do well to see one or two more clubs before settling into a senior position but that's clearly not a risk we can afford to take.

What would give you the idea that "Sumich knows a lot more about tough, physical footy than Gary Ayres"?

Sorry, different era. Leigh Matthews, Dermie and Dipper certainly intimidated the hell out of a lot of teams in the 80's, with Ayres constantly amongst the battles, but I never saw him as dominating any contests. Sumich, however, without the impenetrable bulk of Plugger, still seemed to be able to shrug off most full-backs without difficulty.

So it's a perceived difference. Ayres seems more of a silky-skills type to me, and Sumich more of an in-your-face opponent.

I'm not sure how old you are but i'm tipping you didnt see very much of Gary Ayres.
His nickname was Conan (as in the barbarian) and he did dominate contests and was one of the best and toughest players Hawthorn ever had, in short he was skillful and brutal.

Sumich wasnt any where near as tough but was no sook either.

Don't want to make this a big argument but Ayres was as tough as they come.
