The time is right to Blood youngsters. To give them every oppurtunity to prove them selves and develope. Time on the ground is needed. At the moment we have the foundations of a great side.Richo and ottens in the Forward line. Gasper, Kellaway and when he is fit Holland in the backline. Stafford in the ruck is handy and when Hall gets more experience will be a great Tall.

Our finish last year was great but at a cost.We thought we were closer to the ess and brisbanes than we are. So in the pre'season we just tried to top the list up with a forward, running player and a lacklustre ruckman instead of going for youth.(although it did take a bit to get rid of Daffy). It has given us a higher opinion of ourselves. Don't get me wrong I think we are a good side on our day but we are far from a premiership contender and like everyone else this is what we all WANT. We must take risks with the kids we have now put them in the side and see which ones can swim and which ones can't. Do this for the next two years and we might find another cup in our cabnet.
I just feel we are sitting on our hands and waiting for it to happen. Under the salary cap situation that we have there is little room for recruting high priced stars so the only way is through youth.
Bring on a cull at the end off the season and set us up with some handy draft picks. Trade for picks. Hey look at What Geelong has got.

And a new assitant coach with a new angle would be good as well. The four have been together now for three years.

I'm not sure if you are surprised but I rate the hawks in the same way. The only difference being we went for talent at last year's draft.

You'd hope not to fall our of finals contention but if you just miss (say 9th) and you ahve developed 2-3 potential premiership players then it's not too bad.

Brisbane and Essendon are fairly dominant now but they have waited a long time to get to that position (started in the early nineties).

Buddha Hocking would be my first choice - for obvious reasons!

While we did go for top ups - save for Rodan and Martin McGrath - we have gone long on youth over the past few years. Some of these players are starting to have an impact now - Fiora, Poyas, Coughlan, Rodan, Zantuck - while others like Pettifer are not that far away.

Also, don't get too carried away with Geelong just yet. One swallow doens't make a summer and they do have a long way to go yet!

I actually still rate us IF we play like we can! Unfortunately, I think some of our players can read all too well and have been carried away with their own publicity!

Maybe being smashed by Freo (for God's sake!!!) will give them their much needed dose of reality!

We may find out tomorrow if we can or can't play.

Agree if this year doesn't work out Richmond should take a long term view (five years), chop and change, recruit young'uns. Trade some of our oldies while they're worth something on the second hand market.

If it Does work we should also still take this view, young talent breeds a sense of urgency and hunger for a senior game, keeping everyone honest.

Is this just another whinge by NUT.

Yer I suppose it is. I’ am inpatient. But I don't wont us to waste the talent we have. Look at the saints and doggies in the mid to late 90's they were so close but didn't win the big one. Need to blood at least three or four new players a year. Essendon has been a on top for 3 years and are still blooding them. Anyhow I’m going to day, not expecting much hopefully will see the young guys get more game time. This will be the game that Rodan puts the footy World on notice. Mark my words.
