Computers & Internet Wikipedia Editing

Twice in the last couple of weeks I have visited the Wikipedia and been alerted to a message to my IP address warning me for vandalism. The second one said that next time it happens my IP address will be banned.

I have never edited a Wiki article in my life so I can only presume someone is somehow using my IP address. Does anyone know how this works? If they ban me will I still be able to view the Wikipedia?

They'd ban you from editing articles. You'd still be able to view them I believe.

i think it's pretty rare that they actually ban someone unless they are really bad.

Happened to me a couple of years ago... Found out it was the doing of a couple of mates when they were over and using my cpu...got banned from editing (which i never do anyways) but not banned from browsing.

If wireless, just put a password on it. Don't want other people using it...

Mates do it all the time from uni computers.

You should hide your ip

I'm going to guess you're on ADSL with a dynamic IP. Your ISP previously had someone on that IP that vandalised a Wiki article, and now you are experiencing the fallout.

If it worries you sign up for an account, that takes precedence over IPs.
