Channel Ten tonight reported that Will Sullivan has been upgraded to the Senior List .

Obviously cover for Cox and to help out Natanui in his 2nd season .

Bit surprising , but sensible I think !

The club usually takes a "wait and see" approach with potential rookie upgrades. So, yeah, it sounds pretty bad for Cox. It's not like Sullivan has been a standout performer, screaming for promotion. Reports from the weekend suggest he was adequate at best.

Not sure about that obeanie.

I would suggest it is because he was ok in the ruck and had an ok game against Carlton.

We need him as a backup, especially if Lynch is going to spend more time forward or if he is pushed out of the team.

Ridiculous. I'd rather go with Naitanui and Schofield if it came down to it.

Cox hasnt done great but he just needs to work into it. Plenty of other deserving options. Death kneel for Wilson and Stevenson considering they are 3rd year rookies and somehow Sullivan got upgraded.

Schofield, in the ruck?

Sullivan was quite good in the ruck against Carlton (kicked an awesome goal as well). Better than Warnock thats for sure.

He is being given a shot on the senior list and I would suggest this is an attempt at future proofing our ruck division, in case of injuries.

Lynch contests well, but is better in other positions. That leaves us with Naita as our 1 developing senior listed ruckman.

Personally I think it is a sensible move, we will also have two additional senior spots available for upgrading a rookie over the course of the season (I think??).

Does this mean Cox will miss round 1?

I've been quite impressed by what little I've seen of Sullivan this pre-season. Certainly he's no world-beater atm, but I think he's improved a lot since last season. His game against Carlton was the best I've seen him play. I think he'll hold his own, if he's called upon.

JON and Cockie , sound like they are the other two players in contention for promotion early in season , from past reports in media !

For Round 1 Rookies needs to be promoted by tomorrow afternoon 4pm !

A wise choice if doubts are on Cox and even Nicky if he needs a rest ,Sulli been on our list for 2 yrs and needs to be given a chance to help in his development.Plenty of mids ,backs and fwds on the list but only 3 rucks so a sensible approach by the club.

Well it's not as if they've actually shown enough to earn a spot on the senior list. Stevenson has talent, yes, definitely, but hasn't forced the selectors to seriously consider him ahead of other players. Same with Wilson, although, personally I think he his a little bit one dimentional.

I believe that another rookie can be promoted sometime during the season? Both players should be eyeing off that spot and show that they've earned it by playing consistently in the WAFL (Wilson has had some big games, but I don't think he'll make it in this team). Stevenson, I think, has a little more time than Wilson - might be backed by Sumich.

I agree it seems we want Lynch playing FF instead of stuffing around playing him as a backup ruckman.

This year every team can elevate an extra rookie to the playing list but I'm uncertain if this MUST be done prior to round 1?

The fact that we chose to elevate a ruckman to me means that Cox is not travelling as well as we hoped and he may not be right to go come round 1. :o

But I will go with a 'glass half full approach', the club knows he might not be right for a couple of weeks but its not like we expect to have Cox on the long term injury list in order to elevate Sullivan to cover him. Sullivan may only get 1 or 2 games before Cox is right to go.

The other 'glass half full' view is we will see Naitanui playing more on the ball:D:):thumbsu::thumbsu:

Does this mean the glass is full?????

lol... yep Woosh has come to his senses... Naitanui will be roving full time at the feet of Cox supported by Sullivan - blocking for Kerr, tackling, clearance machine!! :D

Hahaha I like it.:D

Naitanui is very very effective around the stoppages.

A couple of his goals also came from him basically running the ball out of, or following it from the midfield.

Sure it was in the NAB cup, but his ability to win clearances (I think), was missed when he was playing forward or off the ground with Cox rucking.

Might be interesting to see him rotated through the midfield or working up the ground when not in the ruck.

I would like to take this oppurtunity to say congrats to will sullivan. Regardless of the motives behind the move, it at least it shows some reward for the hard work he's been putting in.

Congrats to Sullivan, hope he can make the most of it.

We can upgrade another rookie to make up for the fact that we have no veterans. Though I doubt we'll rush into anything. No-one's really shown enough at this point.

2PM EDST time, I think. And it is just the Nominated Rookies I think. Ones replacing a LTI List player can be early in the week of the round they are named, from what I understand.

Certainly looks like cox is struggling based on this decision.

I don't understand wtf exactly happened to cox didn't we send him in for surgery at the back end of last year?

IIRC it is around Rd 11 that each team can upgrade an additional rookie.

I saw Cox today and I dont think the problem is with his stomach muscles now.

I think its to do with his foot, I think he may have re-injured his foot injury.

Well said mate.

You get the sense he'd be much more highly rated by supporters if he was at another club, given his peers at WC. It looks bad when he's getting owned by Naitanui/Cox in intraclubs and training drills... but then so would 95% of ruckmen in the comp. And it means he'll be a much better ruckman himself for that constant experience.

As mentioned, he was better than Warnock in the game against Carlton. That augers well for what should be a much-improved season at WAFL level for him. He's fitter and stronger, and after months of contesting against Cox and NicNat, facing the likes of Spaanderman, Newick and Beeck might feel like a bit of a cakewalk.
