For most decades of the 20th century, there is some form of nostalgia. The 1930s perhaps does not attract much nostalgia, given that the first half of that decade saw the Great Depression and the second half the build up to World War 2, but there have been many movies and TV shows set in other past decades for years now.
However, the 1990s do not seem to attract much nostalgia. Perhaps it is too recent - but by the middle of the 1990s there was considerable nostalgia for the 1980s. And while the years of 1990-94 do seem dated now when you look at old photos, the second half of the decade doesn't seem that different from now. The other day I was going through some old video tapes and found a show I had taped in 1998. Despite some things looking out of place (adverts for long departed companies etc), the show itself did not seem that dated. And unless a movie was produced centring around an actual event of the 1990s, it is hard to see a 1990s nostalgia movie been made.
What are your thoughts on this? Will the 1990s ever become "the good old days"?
