Wimbledon Officials clamping down on GRUNTING

Its about time , i just hope they carry through with their penalties and the rest of the tennis world officials follows them .

It really needs to start with the juniors. Stop the girls doing this crap from early on. Bit hard to stop someone doing it when the problem has been ignored until now.

They're clamping down on it hard on the ITF circuit now, so hopefully that stops the juniors.
I just don't think it will work with such high profile players such as Sharapova, and to a lesser extent Azarenka.

Love the headline though.

The International Tennis Federation will consider giving officials the ability to impose harsh penalties on players - including defaulting the match.

Umpires currently have the power to penalise a single point and discussions could see that increased on a graded scale until a player is forced to default a match.

Umpires have had the oppurtunity to stop grunting in it's tracks, yet they've done SFA.
Where was this rule in any of Sharapova or Larcher De Brito's matches?

Des anyone remember the 1992 semi-final between world number 1 Monica Seles and world number 4 at the time Martina Navratilova. at the start of the 3rd set Martina went to the chair umpire and told her to tell Monica to stop grunting because it was annoying her. Moinca was shocked that the umpire told her to stop grunting. But monica still continued to grunt and ending up winning the first final set.

In the pre-match to the FINAL the Wimbledon officals all told Monica not to grunt against Steffi Graf and if she did points will be taken from her. Monica did not grunt and as of this she got thumped 6-1 6-2. I remember seeing an interview of Monica last year and said that was her biggest regret of her career and she believed that if she was allowed to play her normal game the match wouild of been alot closer as she was not focused of the match and all see was focusing was not grunting.

I BELIEVE THE WIMBLEDON OFFICALS WILL DO NOTHING BUT IT IS JUST A SCARE TACTIC.
