After a lot of problems with connections, firewalls, etc, I decided to Uninstall Windows Service Pack 2.

Now, I'm getting (other) windows updates dowloading to my computer from startup, which take ages (I've got 512/128).

Is it a bad move to go without Service Pack 2? Should I re-install it (now that I have seemingly fixed my connection problems?

Can anyone offer any advice?

Thanks

You should at least run SP1/SP1a but personally you should try and solve the SP2 problem's because it corrects a number of secruity issue's.

You can disable the firewall, the entire security center thing if needed.

If you want to disable updates:

Right click My Computer, Properties, Automatic Updates, turn it off. That is how you do it on SP2, I think it's more or less the same with SP1/no SP.

install sp2 but you can go with other firewalls like zonealarm by diabling the windows firewall in the control panel

I'm having problems installing SP2 on my newly fixed computer.
It always stops (Just doesn't go further after many hours) on "Checking Product Key"
I really need help with it because I have tried over and over and over.

You really should install all the updates as soon as they become available and have your machine as up to date as you can.

You are leaving your machine open to attack otherwise.
