I've been trying to compress files (.mp3, .mpg) with Winzip but only managing to compress them by between 1% and 5%.

Is that normal? And if not, what can i do to improve the compression ratio?

Cheers

Yes. They are compressed enough as it is. The only way you can shrink them more is via lowering the bit rate, which reduces quality.

M29 is right - mp3's especially dont compress enough to make a difference.... no matter what you do they wont fit on a disk (if thats what youre trying ;) )

burning onto a CD is the only way to go i think

Nah, wasn't trying to get them on disk, was just trying to send a rather large mpeg to someone, thought i might be able to compress it a little.

Anyway, thanks for the help guys, much appreciated.

Cheers

use one of the free online storage sites. i used to use xdrive but i think u have to pay now. i had at least 50mb space, and it was the best way to send files between work and home, or to share out to mates. no need to copy to disk/cd, or to email the file(s).
