hey all.

quick question.
with a wifi network. if i have a friend come in, connect to the network. any downloads made while connected to the network would go towards that quota right?

would that be the same for any mobile phone? eg iphone?

that was my understanding, but some things are pointing a different way?

Yes and yes.

Someone's gotta pay for it.

First of all yes anyone connected and dowloading off your WiFi network will add to your quota.

Second no not with a mobile phone that would use a different medium GSM or whatever not wiFi unless it was a PDA which is connected to your WiFi. Actually I dont know strangely I use my mobile to talk not to surf download from the net.

well with my iPhone. i got my first bill and ive gone over my cap for data usage. not by much at all but still.

It got me thinking, why am i being charged for it? i thought it would simply add to the download quota for my home network?

I know i havent used it outside of a wifi network. so im just curious.

When im on my iphone the wifi signal is always on and connected.

Silly question but just to make sure, I did a quick google search ; have you tried this?

Settings -> General -> network, then click “off” next to “enable 3G”

sounds like it's downloading through the mobile network as opposed to your wireless network. you need to configure it correctly if u want it to use your home network

dont think you can configure it correctly. i know i have an old router, could that be the case?

apple said the iPhone was WiFi certified?

Just a quick question.

My computer is connected wirelessly to my home network and it gets full signal strength and speed, but sometimes it just disconnects for no reason. The icon on the tray still says that it's connected and going at maximum, but the internet won't even load.
I repair it and then it works again for a while.
At the moment it is ridiculously bad. It drops out every 3 or 4 minutes.

Any tips on how to fix it?

you probably have a crap router. mine does the same. Dlink?

by configure it correctly i meant most of the configuration would need to be on your phone. your router only provides the wifi connection, it won't determine whether or not ur phone still uses 3g.

i wouldnt know in too much detail as i don't have an iphone. the way i imagine it would work is that it would pick up wifi when within range, and if not, fall back to 3g, and fall back to 2g if not within 3g range..

Trying changing channels. My guess is that an appliance such as a cordless phone is probably creating interference.
