Wisdom Teeth

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

My first one has just come through, and I didn't even know until I felt something different and looked in the mirror. For a couple of days it was sore to eat on because it rubbed at the inside of my mouth, but I think there was less pain because my teeth, cause of my braces, are already in the right position and don't have to move to let the wisdom teeth come down.

Good luck :)

It is actually a scam i can confirm this from my own experience and others. The wisdom teeth only hurt for a month or two then u never notice them again. $2000 operation, i don't think so!

Mine have been hurting for over a year, so it's not ALWAYS a scam.

I think it's really one of those case by case basis things. Just make sure you have a good dentist doing the extraction. I had all 4 out under a local (they'd started to come through on an angle and impact against my molars but were still pretty deep when they were removed) and was ok after a couple of days. You do get sick of having blood oozing from the holes but as long as they don't get infected or anything (which is what results in your face swelling up) they heal over pretty quickly. It is weird being conscious while soneone is ripping teeth out from the back of your mouth, but it's not like you're in any pain (until the local wears off, anyway) and you're tripping on nitrous oxide for the whole thing, so you don't care about very much at that point anyway. Most of the horror stories I've heard are actually from people who went into hospital to get it done...

I had 3 wisdom teeth out, apparently its normal not to have a 4th, and other than the immediate swelling it wasn't too bad at all.

The worst bit for me was washing my mouth out with salty water (yucko)

Oh yeah, & how could I forget all the blood I coughed up in the recovery room! Think I must have swallowed quite a bit during the precedure. Took a while for the bleeding to stop too. WHen I got home I went to bed straight away & when I woke up there blood all over my pillow.

Yeah same happened to me, I had just one out and it was fairly simple and all but the BLOOD!!!!!!!! I thought it'd stopped and I was exhausted because I'd been up ALL the night before in amazing pain, so I had a sleep and woke up with blood all over me, on my pillow and all. Yuck. :(

Whats the story with Wisdom Teeth? Do you have to get them out before you die? I've never had any teeth problems/pains and dont want to get them yanked out if there is no need.

We do care - really...

At least you're well enough to get annoyed at us. Or that could just be the drugs wearing off.

So how did the experience compare to all the stories on this thread?

No pain = no need.

Because they come through so much later than your other teeth a lot of people have problems with crowding and impacting on existing molars etc when they do come through. And that's when they usually get taken out before they damage the jaw, other teeth, or get infected.

Wisdom teeth are very individual - some people need them taken out, some don't. Some have trouble, some don't.

I had three wisdom teeth and had them all removed in the chair.

The first was a major problem and the dentist spent over twenty minutes with his knee in my chest trying to rip it out with pliers.

After a while he worked out that he should cut it in half. So he cut the tooth in half and it came out much easier. He did the same with the other two and ditto.

Afterwards, lots of blood and pain, but it goes away before too long.

Make sure you keep gargling with the salt and water to prevent infections.
