Okay, so every time a women's test comes up we hear from the stars about how much they love playing it and it happens so rarely, but is it an issue that they play no long form cricket at the state level? They play a 12 match WNCL in the one day format and the WBBL too but why is there no Shield equivalent? I find it hard to believe it's due to a lack of grounds.

Victoria could play at the Junction Oval or Jubilee Park
WA could play at the WACA or Lilac Hill
SA at Karen Rolton or Glenelg
Tassie would have to be Bellerive I think
NSW at Cricket Central or the dozens of other grounds they have
Queensland at AB Field (any other possible grounds toml?)

Get the girls playing a format they love in a 3 day FC season. Expand it to 4 if there are too many draws.

I do find it a tad strange they dont play longer form of cricket in Australia.

Only way I could see a longer form of cricket in Australia being set up is if they cut the WNCL from the current 12 games. Also the fixturing is tight these days, you would most likely not get the international players playing.

Hearing the West Indies pulled the test match off coming up due to cost and logistics , and Indias performance at the WACA makes me think the only country that cares about Womens Test cricket is Australia. England were also rather pathetic last summer. If I am reading right the next womens test match is between England and India as a standalone test in June at Lords.

Not sure if your suggesting even 3 day First class cricket but given the recent test match only went 3 days, I guess that could work. 4 days would probably chew too much in the calendar. Maybe schedule a WNCL and a First class game on the same weekend.

It feels unlike the men, the priority on the global scene in womens cricket is : WT20Is> WODIS> Test matches.

In the mens global scene it would be: T20Is> Tests> ODIs.

In the last three years, Australia A have played three Four-Day matches and one Three-Day match. There was also a Three-Day match put on last year essentially involving two WNCL All-Star teams.

So while that means domestic players had at most a mere five opportunities for red ball cricket... it's the same number of Tests played by Australia in that time.

Likewise, Aus women average about a dozen T20Is and a dozen ODIs per year, approximately the same number of women's domestic 50-over and 20-over matches played each year.

Therein lies the answer (other than the most boring, simplest one: "money"). If the frequency of Tests were to increase, CA would incorporate more red ball cricket into the domestic system accordingly, probably at first by turning half the WNCL fixture into multi-day matches.

it's probably in the administrative too hard basket.
Its in the administrative too expensive basket. Not enough Tests for CA to care about preparing for.
A six game, seven round comp would be much better than the once a season thing two team thing they have as the only FC game outside Tests.

WNCL Grand Final this season will be between NSW and QLD.

Victoria go winless

and WA left themselves too much to do to qualify for the final losing the last game of the season to ACT Meteors.

WA needed to chase the target last night against ACT inside 18.5 overs, which proved too stiff a task.

Im thinking why play the Final at Sydney Cricket Central and say not at North Sydney Oval? Cricket Central is a horrible venue for the spectators to attended, with expensive food at the cafe. You have a little pavilion that caters maybe for up to 75 people.

isn't Cricket Central the NSW defacto home base now (aside from SCG)?

It is but my point being its a Grand Final and you want to cater to as many fans as possible. I reckon the capacity of Cricket Central in Sydney is about 500 at most.

Its basically a training facility for players/academies etc

I dont think its a fan friendly venue to get to and from the ground. The public transport is horrible to get to and from the game there. And I have attended WBBL Spring Challenge games there, One Day Cup games there, WNCL matches there.

The positive about the venue? You get up and personal with the players as they are roaming around the cafe, facilities. Ive managed to be within touching distance of Mitchell Starc, Chris Green this last 6 months. And I guess being free to attend is another brownie point.

how many cricket fans (or women's cricket fans) would attend a WNCL final? 500 might be way overs.

EDIT: can't recall how many were at Glen Waverley back in the day at the one I attended (when it was best of 3 format), which was apparently 2007/08?

Ive never been to a WNCL final but the last game i think I saw between NSW and Tasmania (WNCL match this season) on a midday probably had around 100 fans to be honest.

We'll get a crowd on Saturday for the final for sure. I dont think 500 is too low or too high an estimate.

Queensland beat NSW in the final by 7 runs (DLS method) in the final. 100's to Georgia Redmayne and Grace Harris.
