Would Moloney...

The ease with which he got a game at Melbourne has, I think not put the pressure on him to improve, as has happened to most Midfielders at Skilled Stadium. It's much easier for him to coast with the most pressure coming from duds like Phil Read and Simon Godfrey.

He would certainly be in the mix, but he can't play forward or back, and doesn't have the class or skill of Bartel, Corey, Ling, Gaz, Chappy, Kelly or Enright. Had hes stayed at Geelong he may have continued his fast rate of improvement, but Melbourne's midfield is a disgrace, full of outsiders and pea-hearts, besides their new kids. They have no midfield leadership and no guidance that midfield is such a rabble that they wouldn't be able to trade him back to us for Ottens and a 1st round draft pick, so there's no point them talking him up.

He's getting more money, we haven't really lost anything, but gained A KPP/Ruckman, and Melbourne have at least a half decent midfielder. It's a win all round, which can happen.

Moloney would take over Rooke's spot, but not necessarily position

Rooke will be skating on thin ice all year.

Believe me, after the Round 20 game last year I wanted Rooke hung, drawn and quartered. Since then though playing as a tagging midfielder he's been terrific. Probably the most ferocious tackler we have.

I now reserve my criticisms for Gardiner, needless to say he played well last week.

I can see most of your points, but Moloney is a better kick to a player than any of those players mentioned. They all have it over him in other areas (Except Enright but thats IMO and I know no Cats fan will agree) but he is an excellent kick.
In another year or two our midfield will be far, far better than what it is now.

I'll preface my comments on the topic with saying that I like Moloney, he could turn out to be a very good player and I was very, very happy with the trade...

Moloney is one dimensional. He's a great, strong, long kick. But that's about all. I can't think of one other quality that makes him stand out above any of the Geelong players mentioned in this thread. The reason that any of the Geelong players mentioned are better than him (all subjective, of course) is that they have more than one trait that makes them valuable as a player.
