Hey guys. After watching today's game i really think that if you guys had of had an accurate goalkicker in the first half the game would have been a lot different. With Fev at the scorpions and seemingly doing ok would just like to gauge your opinions on giving him a chance. Seriously how awesome would a forward line of Fev, Watts, Jurrah and Sylvia be?

We have plenty of "accurate goalkickers", they just kicked poorly today.

I'm not in favour of stop-gap solutions, unless you are challenging for a flag, so no to Fev for me. But there's at least one other thread on this already...

You have listed:

1 young gun
2 inconsistent players who have just been dropped
1 fat, old player who is just kicking a few goals against suburban footballers

Fair enough. Guess Fev is a bit washed up nowadays. Still think he could be worth a shot for you guys and i think i read he'd lost a shitload of weight. Something around the 15kg mark.

As to the two inconsistent players in Jurrah and Sylvia i honestly think both of these players are top notch and only go missing due you're inexperienced list. Chuck Jurrah in at Hawthorn or Collingwood and i reckon he'd be an elite player. Consistency will come as the rest of your team improves.

Lastly in regards to Watts, i think im getting a slight man crush :o

(and by slight i mean freaking huge)

Right now? On a 1 year infinitely-youidiot-claused contract? Without a doubt.
I don't care if he'd be the only man within 100m of our goals (sitting in the square because (lets say) he's still lazy). Yes.
Unless the 'big fish' that's forever talked about at Melbourne comes along.

YES to FEV! Lets start listening to opposition supporters. Our list is in serious need of some experience and we need to trade that into the side. The younger players learn from them. Rebuilding does not work...just look at the number of 100 point + thrashings that are happening this season to sides that have been 'rebuilding' for the past 3-4 years!

Depends on who we land as coach.

I could see a guy like Malthouse or Clarkson taking the gamble on Fev, as they are no-nonsense coaches that take no shit and could turn Fev around.

To be fair to fev though he has been given roles that take him out of the game to allow your other forwards into it.

How about concentrating on getting somebody who can put the ball down there consistently instead of relying on a has been?

Bate has been a much better player in the VFL all year than Fev, and look how he goes at AFL level.

We can fashion a forward line around Watts, Howe and Jurrah and for the time being use Green whilst we wait for another KPP. We've beaten teams by nearly 100 this year, our goal kicking power is not the problem, more that they struggle to take tough chances and keep the ball in the 50. Rebuilding does work but you need to be patient.

Exactly!

And furthere to master's point, I am all for trying to trade in some experience and talent in the 24-28 yo sort of age bracket.

But there is no point bringing in a guy like Fev who will only play one more season! We can't win a flag next year - so why inhibit the development of our own forwards and throw our developing attacking structures out of whack for one year of Fev??

YES absolutely as long as he was fit and his head was in the right place.

I know for a fact we will be throwing our kitchen sink at collingwoods chris dawes....Either 1 will satisfy me

But one is 23 years old and the other is 30. One has a fantastic work ethic and no known off field issues and the other has not always been known for working hard and has well documented off field problems.

How could you possibly say that you would be satisfied with either? Dawes is miles, absolute light years, ahead of Fev in terms of benefit to the MFC.

Where is you Chris Dawes info coming from btw?

I don't mind either way. BUT If he puts on a Melbourne jumper and he kicks goals often, does the team thing now and then, and doesn't get into any mischief behind the scenes.... I'd be happy to have him tbh.

No. Premiership window obviously not yet open. Melbourne won't mount a serious top 4 challenge next season. Still developing young players. Hopefully finish top 8.
Fev will be retired by the time we are a genuine contender.

Have you watch many Casey games? He leads to odd spots and takes the best defender.

Yep I have watched a few. He is clearly the main target of the team, who cares if he takes the best defender? He is a former AFL champion FFS.

No messiah. A hole plugger, for one year. At least Fev won't be campaigning for internal change, won't bitch about contract clauses, and if he does lay down during a game at least it'll be in the goalsquare.

i watched casey today, Fev played well, unlucky not to kick 7, plus he takes the best defender.
