I probably should ask the Nth Board but they will think I am trolling.

I know it is supposed to refer to back against the wall stuff and their original name but what the hell is a Shineboner ... Its some sort of butcher that works in an Abattoir isnt it.

I have worked in the boning room as a kid a Angliss's and Gilbo's wasnt too much spirit plenty of health violations though.

But seriously does any one really know apart from Denis Pagen ?

From what I've seen on Footy Classified, Glenn Archer gets really agitated when the phrase is mentioned. He seems to think it's b/s. Talks about it with disdain.

To be honest it is just crap. Saying that North win games purely on "shinboner spirit" is a bit insulting to the skills, and gameplan of the team. The fact that we win a lot of games when we are the underdog, might just reflect that the punters/media don't pay due respect to our side.

After all, we finished 5th in 2005 after Round 22, 4th in 2007, and currently 5th in 2008. Our problem is that we haven't shown we can produce the same form in finals, when it really counts.

The Shinboner mythology is just a cliche that the media trundles out when they can't think of anything new. They should be writing about Laidley's tactics, or how we've developed a flexible forward structure that can fit in marking players such as Petrie, Hale, Thompson and Edwards with Grant, Harvey, Campbell and Thomas. And how Laidley can flick a switch and go from tall to small etc.

What he said :thumbsu:. And what Arch said too. "Shinboner spirit" is the biggest monkey **** of a slogan in the history of football, but at least it gives the club and identity (even if it is one I thoroughly despise).

Interesting thoughts, lot of North fans wanted Laidley out two seasons back.
Good coach with a good side that need to perform well in this years finals no doubt.

I always thought it had several origins, including the fact that Arden St had an abattoir near by.

Didn't we also play rough in the old days and some opposition shinbones got a bit of a kickin from the lads in the royal blue and white.

It also notes that local butchers used to hang shinbones in their windows when we won.

I think it means our supporters bangon about no respect. Just heard another one on SEN. The station just talked to Drew Petrie[Giving North great credit ]yet one of their fans gets on and waffles on about getting no credit.
