Yeah, if we're talking about consistency of elite football, one of these things is not like the other.

I'm happy for you to say that Tredrea didn't play 11 elite seasons and because of injury, you're absolutely right.

But then to list Brown and his 2 AA guernseys and maybe 3 years of genuine elite CHF play ahead of him based on longevity and consistency over the timeframe?

Nope.

Yeah fair enough, that's probably true enough for Brown.

As for the others, I don't think Tredreas few seasons where he reached heights the others didn't doesn't outweigh the up to 100+ games more they've played this century.

Subjective though.

Gary Ablett: Geelong, Gold Coast *

268 games, 358 goals, 209 Brownlow votes (0.78 per game)
Position: Midfield
Premiership: 2 (2007, 2009)
Brownlow Medal: 2 (2009, 2013)
All Australian: 8 (2007-2014)
Best and Fairest: 5 (2007, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013)
League MVP: 5 (2007, 2008, 2009, 2012, 2013)
If you've just been introduced to our great game of Australian Rules Football and you have never watched a game, let alone Gary Ablett, I will try to explain why he is my number one player, and why comedian Alex Williamson wants to boof him.

First of all, you're probably wondering what the above achievements mean. Allow me to explain it to you. First of all, Gary does his best work in the midfield. He is the league's best player, and has been the league's best player for the best part of eight years. They say if a midfielder is kicking two goals in every three games, that is breaking even. Well Ablett does much better than that, kicking four goals in every three games.

He has won the competition's elite prize on two occasions, the Holy Grail of the premiership that every player and team strives for. It's the equivalent to the World Series, the Stanley Cup, the English Premierleague title, a world title in boxing, or a gold medal at the Olympics.

He has won the competition's most prestigious individual prize, the Brownlow Medal, on two occasions. This is equal to winning two Oscars, two Nobel Prizes, or two FIFA's Golden Ball awards. Out of 700+ colleagues to compete against every season, Gary has come out on top on two occasions, and has finished second and third in the award too.

He has been selected as an All Australian eight times, all in consecutive years. That's equal to being selected in the NBA First Team eight years in a row, or the EPL Team of the Year eight years in a row, or sleeping with each of the 86 contestants from the Miss Universe pageant.

He has been awarded with his club's Best and Fairest Award on five occasions, which is similar to being Employee of the Month five times in a year and getting to shag Jessica Simpson each time as your reward.

He has been honoured with the most meaningful individual award on five occasions, that is being voted by his peers as the League's Most Valuable Player. To put that amazing achievement into perspective, no other player in the history of the award has won more than twice. That's a more incredible achievement than Michael Phelps' 18 Olympic Gold Medals, Margaret Court's 24 Tennis Grand Slams, Jack Nicklaus' 18 Golf Grand Slams and Victor Peirce being acquitted for the 1988 Walsh Street killings of Victoria Police Constables Steven Tynan and Damian Eyre.

I'd honestly like to thank Gary for making my decision to select a captain in Dream Team every week so easy. He's so good that I decided to shave my head to be just like him. Unfortunately I don't have his strength, balance, vision, smarts, skill, talent, explosiveness, composure, fitness, evasiveness, leadership, match winning ability and commitment, so that plan of trying to emulate him didn't quite work out.

Gary averages 25.02 disposals, 3.23 marks, 4.24 tackles, 4.47 forward fifty entries, 4.28 clearances, 1.37 running bounces and 0.78 goal assists. Those stats are good, but don't do Gary justice. Those stats include seasons 2002-2006, when he wasn't even considered to be in the league's best 100 players, let alone the league's best player. His stats since 2007 read: 168 games, 30.89 disposals, 3.61 marks, 4.7 tackles, 5.11 forward fifty entries, 5.63 clearances, 1.71 running bounces and 0.82 goal assists. To record those averages over 168 games in eight consecutive seasons is simply phenomenal. Include his 1.32 goals per game average in that period, and it's not hard to see why Alex Williamson wants to boof him.

It's actually scary to think he is getting better with age, despite being 30. Even though he didn't win any individual honours apart from an All Australian selection in 2014, you have to remember he only played fifteen games. Had Gary not been injured, he would have won his third Brownlow Medal, sixth Best and Fairest and most likely his sixth League MVP. He averaged 32.07 disposals, 1.6 goals, 6.07 tackles, 5.13 forward fifty entries and unbelievable career high averages of 7.87 clearances and 1.27 goal assists.

I'm looking forward to seeing Gary make a full recovery from his shoulder injury and dominating the competition like Gisele Bundchen dominates the Cat Walk.

Great list, good to see Riewoldt @ 4 ahead of Brown, Pavlich, Tredrea etc

Love Lenny @ 10 aswell!

Just think Milne is very stiff to miss out on the top 50.

Career Summary:

2x 60+ goal seasons
4x 50+ goal seasons
2x 40+ goal seasons
1x 30+ goal season
4x 20+ goal seasons

8 years of 40+ goals per year for a forward pocket player is more than serviceable IMO.
