i read somewhere that u cant play xbox live on pirated games with a mod chip, is this true?

apparently yes, but you can't use xbox live, which means no online gaming and no downloadable episodic content.

technically its not a chip, but they have now developed new firmwire mods which can play XBL .

You can play on Xbox live with a firmware upgrade (not mod chip) with pirate games, however the firmware upgraders need to keep a step ahead of any microsoft updates that detect the firmware. If detected, your serial number on your xbox is banned and you cannot play online, even if you change gamertag. There is no guarantee given by the providers of the firmware that you will be able to play on live.

I havent got the firmware myself, but am thinking about it as I am heading to Thailand shortly and I'm sure i could pick up a few "cheap" games

That is just ridiculus, you have to pay 600$ to play the console, however you don't have to pay 100$ to play the games....

Live is pretty shit IMO, unless you're an uber nerd it's pretty pointless...

I am more than happy to get cheap games... screw microsoft...

Everyone knows that games are going to be overpriced when a new console comes out, they have been overpriced for 15 years. My point is, if you know they are going to be $80-$100, which is apparently out of peoples price ranges, why buy the console?

Although the idea doesn't appeal to me, i love xbl, and the thought of perhaps being permabanned until the year 9999 gives me nightmares, i can see why people do it. Who wouldn't want top pay a 10th of the price for games?

But yeah, as stealthy as some of the new mods seem to be (i had no idea stealth 360 mods even existed before this thread), me thinks its only a matter of time before Microsoft finds a way to detect them like they have with mods in the past.

Not everybody loves live, personally I don't rate it because I am only an occasional gamer, it is pointless for me to go on live because I would be slaughtered by any regular gamer on there...

when all 3 consoles have overpriced games and the alternative it too not play any games, it's pretty easy to understand I reckon.

Plus some people will only buy a console because you can copy games. I did it with Playstation, already had a N64 so wouldn't have got a Playstation had I not been able to copy games.

PS3 games aren't region coded so you can always get them for much less than they retail for in Australia. Rarely do you have to spend as much as $60
