Im looking at getting one of these consoles and wondering what one is better.
Im leaning towards the XBOX as its cheaper and has the bigger range of games as well as the games being a lot cheaper. IS this the right decision or is PS3 sooooo much better.
And are there any major faults in the XBOX?

Help appreciated.

commodore 64 without a doubt.

ps3 has MGS4...ps3 wins.

Depends what you preferre to play, i'm a microsoft fan so will always get a Xbox...cheaper bigger range of games and better internet system.

PS3 just bullshits with these bluray thing...name DVDs in you video store the sell/rents out bluray?...none.

XBOX all the way

Simultaneously ask Karl Pilkington and Lunchlady Doris, I dare you.

And to the guy before me, video stores do rent out Blu-Ray now.
In fact i've got a hired disc lying in my lounge-room as we speak. Blu-ray will only get bigger, and the quality gap is noticeable on DVD's.

touche`, my friend.....well like HD TV and ADSL2+ i won't get it til its cheaper

Well i've got a PS2 but i really don't want to spend an extra $250 if i can help it.

If you've got a decent computer, bluray should be a moot point...... you can get combo drives for bout 150 bucks. Furthermore most modern video cards can be easily hooked up to your hdtv with an adapter.

This is a better choice imo because if you're a keen movie collector (or ebil copyright infringer) you would want to back up your collection to the hard drive.

Everyone knows how annoying a scratch to a disc is.

PS3 has the free online. Which is why I'm getting the PS3 on the weekend. Mainly for GTA IV and COD. Everybody says Xbox Live is better (I have never seen or played Xbox Live) however I have played PS3 Online and its fantastic. I'm not a hardcore gamer so I don't want to pay for it.

Less than $1.50 a week for what is a much superior service. I'm not going to bother going into detail again, but you should do some research before you buy.

If you're not a hardcore gamer, PS3 might be the option, because there's not many decent games for it.

Look I've got both, and recommend the PS3. Most people here have some ind fo bias as they only own one console.

Price wise, the 360 might appear cheaper, but there are going to be some extra things you'll need to buy for it, which tends to bring the price up to, or higher than, the PS3 anyway. (things like recharageable cables for the controllers, batteries, XBox Live costs money every month etc. whereas all this stuffis free with the PS3).

PS3 has better titles coming out in the near future, but right now the 360 has more to offer, especially if you like FPs titles.

If you have a good tv (and I really think you need one before buying either console), the PS3 also plays Blu-ray movies, which is a massive plus, because they're awesome.

for longevity, the Ps3 is probably the way to go, I can't see the Xbox being around in 3 years, whereas the Ps3 should have at least another 6 or 7 years in it.

Also, the 360 has a lot of problems with reliability. It scratches discs, and is prone to overheating and eventual shut down (i.e. you'll need to get it repaired).

Batteries are free for PS3? If you have a recharge cable, why do you need batteries? Does the PS3 come with a headset, or a remote for DVD playback like my 360 did?

What are the better titles coming out for PS3?

Why is the 360 only going to be around for 3 years, and the PS3 longer? The 360 has sold many more consoles, and MANY MANY MANY more software units, and has awesome developer support with the superior versions of any multiplatform game you care to name. I have owned mine for nearly a year now with no repairs needed, no discs scratched, and less freezing than anyone playing GTA IV on PS3 would have encountered.

360 has more good games to offer for every genre of game you could think of.

PS3 doesn't need batteries full stop. They're fairly outdated technology for wireless peripherals.

I was saying that you need EITHER batteries or a recharge cable for hte 360. Whichever way you go, it will cost you more. Not to mention the recharge cables are unreliable.

White Knight Story, Final Fantasy 13, MGS4, Killzone2, LittleBigPlanet, Tekken6.

I've heard of more problems with GTa4 on Xbox than Ps3, but whichever way you look at it, the title had issues on both consoles. Not realyl a valid criticism on EITHER system that one.

There are a number of games that are superior on Ps3, Grand Theft Auto4, for example.

The 360 is not built for longevity, same as the previous Xbox. The last xbox lasted 5 years total, the PS2 is still supported even now, after 11 years. The 360 has been criticised by a number of developers for it's technical limitations. These are the reasons why my OPINION is that it won't be around for many more years.

That's entirely subjective, but I'm not going to argue over this point - mainly because there's no way to really quantify it.

Agreed, I don't use them either.

Cables are unreliable huh? How is that possible? I don't know because I have a charging dock.

White Knight Story, Final Fantasy 13, MGS4, Killzone2, LittleBigPlanet, Tekken6.

Add those games to the PS3s existing library, and it still doesn't match up what is already out for 360. Of course by the time those are out, the 360 will have Ninja Gaiden II, Gears of War 2, Fable 2, Too Human, Alan Wake etc, so it will be still no contest.

I've heard of more problems with GTa4 on Xbox than Ps3....

Uh huh. Right....

Nope. 720p 2xAA > 640p 0xAA. Both get 99 on metacritic.

Why do you expect people to have so much faith in your opinions when they are based off of nothing but fluff and some weird agenda? There is no basis for any of this.

Mine, for example, doesn't charge up the pack you insert into the battery area, so I need the cord plugged in all the time. My brothers did the same thing for ages before eventually not working.

Like I said, this is all subjective, but I would definitely prefer the PS3 titles coming out then the 360 titles coming out. I still think there's really only two genuine 'must-have' titles for 360, being Gears of War and Mass Effect, both of which have little replay value. Like I said, this is all just opinion - it would probably serve us both well to stop arguing on this point, because it's going to get tiresome.

Touche'. I can see I'm dealing with a real debater here.

Ok, well, nearly every review I've read stats the PS3 version is better graphically, and from my own first hand experience with the title on both platforms - it is my opinion that graphically the game looks better on PS3. Native resolution means little when the result is worse.

My opinion is based on owning both consoles, and being an avid gamer across all platforms. I have no agenda, other than spreading my own opinion. There is more basis for my opinions than yours, after all, I am more educated and have more first hand experience on both consoles.

Ultimately we're both just going to waste eachothers time and annoy everyone else (which I don't' particularly care about anyway) if we continue our back and forth debates, so I'm going to drop this right here. People can make up their own mind, and choose which, if either, of our opinions is more insightful or knowledgeable.

They can choose yours, the one-sided 360 fan. Or they can choose mine, the man who has both consoles and owns multiple titles across both.

Except Blu-Rays don't scratch.

laughable

They also said dvdrs would last 30 to 100 years.

(and BD+ copyright protection wouldn't be broken for 10 years :P )

don't believe the hype.

BD may be more scratch resistant but optical discs are always vulnerable to scratches and disc rot over time. Why take the risk when harddrives are cheap as chips?

No way am I going to invest 30 to 50 bucks for a movie without first making a backup.

not to mention the convenience of having instant access to your movie collection without swapping discs.

Look, maybe over time they will scratch, so far none in my library have even the slightest mark. I guess we'll see, but so far the claim that they're scratched proof has rung true.

How are you proposing to get Hi-Def movies to the hard drive? Download? Now THAT's laughable. At least for the next 5 years. The Br code still hasn't been hacked so you can't exactly write the movie from the disc to the hard drive anyway. I brought up BR as an added feature you won't get on the 360. I still think that point stands up regardless of your personal preference for buying an additional drive at a cost of $150 for your PC. Add that $150 to the cost of the 360 and its already more expensive than the PS3, and that's without adding the costs of recharge cables, wireless connection or XBL.

No way am I going to invest 30 to 50 bucks for a movie without first making a backup.

Fair enough, that's your prerogative. Either way, BR is available on the PS3, and nothing comparable is available on Xbox. So whether its something you personally would use or not, you would have to agree its a feature in favour of the PS3 in a value sense. At least for the freedom it gives game developers in being able to work with more data, as opposed to standard DVD-9's the 360 is hamstrung by.

not to mention the convenience of having instant access to your movie collection without swapping discs.

On the flipside, many people like to display their collection of movies next to the player, and like to buy something 'tangible'. At the end of the day, we're getting slightly off-topic here.

You do realise that BD+ and AACS has been utterly defeated by the hax0rs? (even the latest version MKB v7 was cracked 3 days before release). Google if you don't know what I'm talking about.

hehehe, why can't you have it both ways? display your discs WITHOUT CONSTANT WEAR from playing while using the harddrive to access the movies.

Ok, but how are you going to download the large movie files? Hell, I can't even see them available for torrent. Sounds like you know more about this stuff than me though - I'm just thinking practically

hehehe, why can't you have it both ways? display your discs WITHOUT CONSTANT WEAR from playing while using the harddrive to access the movies.

You can. But the OP of this thread sounds like he's fairly money conscious when choosing a console - I was just pointing out BR is a feature you'll get on PS3, and there's no comparable feature on the 360 - if he had the extra $150 to spend on a BR drive, I'm sure he wouldn't be mentioning price as a determining factor. Not to mention, I'm still not sold on the practicality of having BR-files on a PC, or even how you'd rip them in the first place. cracking the code is one thing, but do you think it's practical to download files that are 15-20gb just to watch a movie?

I see your point though, it's valid, in the sense about wanting to back up your library. I'll have to look into it to be honest - because I don't want to lose either of my DVD or BR library.

Well done precious.

You have some terrible luck, all these things that happen to you :(

.

OK, well I will disagree with that. But in any case, 2 must haves are better than 0, no?

Touche'. I can see I'm dealing with a real debater here.

I didn't want to outright call you a liar.

If you are so educated and unbiased, why do you continue to post mistruths, silly predictions, and vague complaints about one system? Why does your opinon of the system's gaming libraries fly in the face of accepted wisdom the world over (apart from SDF members)? You obviously have interesting taste in games, so interesting that it would be better that you kept those opinions to yourself.

At least no one can complain about this debate here :D
