Hey guys,
I bought my xbox about a month ago and its been smooth saling until the last week when my wireless controller turns itself off for no legit reason, midway through a game. It happened randomly all the time playing BF:BC with the exception of everytime I went to heal myself, it did it. Highly frustrating. My friend has had the same trouble of his turning off very randomly and commonly. Another friend has said he has the same trouble but not often.
I was wondering if anyone else has had this same problem, what they did about it and if it worked?
cheers:D

Yeah, would have thought it would be the batteries, surely you would have checked that previous to posting this?

give me some credit guys, I did check the b82rez before I posted it. They were 3/4 full and I changed them and still had trouble.
I also tried playing while holding the controller right in front of the infra-red thing.
I have been on BF for awhile but made a new account and have been busy since.

The accessories are covered by 3 month warranty if memory serves correctly.

Best to ring MS and ask for a replacement.

The controllers are prone to little glitches. I bought the recharge pack for mine, and now it won't work unless the recharge pack, and cord, are plugged in.

Anyway, try pressing the button above the USB ports on your 360 (provided you have your 360 standing upright to limit RROD issues), this will try and scan for controllers, sometimes the 360 really just needs to re-establish teh controllers connection for some reason.

The button is only small, right next to the memory card slot things.

Good point. I believe if the controller has been synced with another 360 it can be a tad glitchy and may need to re-synced to your console.

That may work.

Barring that, I'd be seeking a replacement from MS

On your point of standing the console upright, where did you hear this will limit 3RLod?

The only thing I've heard about lessening the chance is having the console laying flat and proping the console up on rubber feet, raising it enough to allow airflow around the entire console

Laying flat limits the disc scratching. The disc drive doesn't shake as much when it's flat.

Standing upright limits RROD. The console cools easier when upright apparently.

Bit of a bastard choice to have to make, but I've gone with the upright, mainly because it gives me more room in my cabinet.

And every console should be on a stand or table anyway, too much dust otherwise.

Just don't lay it down on soft surfaces, like carpet, and you'll be fine...which tbh you shouldn't do with any console. Any overheating that occurs with the console laying down on a hard flat surface is an issue with the console, not the orientation. It doesn't matter what you do in that case, if your console is going to RRoD, it'll RRoD.

I'd definately try resyncing to start with. Just turn on the controller, push the little button next to the card slots on the machine, then push the button on the controller. If it's operating properly it'll reattach.

If the controller has been synced with another console it isnt a "glitch" as such if you can't attach to another console without resyncing. Thats exactly what is supposed to happen.

Can't say i've ever had this issue either with any of my 4 controllers. Did with my first GH3 wireless guitar tho. Just took it back and got another one...

Ah ok. I've heard 1 of the problems is that there is not enough distance between the bottom of the console and what it lays on (i.e. table / stand), hence raising it with rubber feet can create more air flow around the console.

Probably a similar premise to having it upright

Oh christ no, I'd never put it on soft surfaces or carpet, not in a million years.

What I meant though was that the rubber feet that are part of the console are too low (rumour I have heard) so airflow can be a problem even when on a hard surface.

I've had mine since launch, RRoD once and it's been laying flat the entire time. Never had discs scratched or anything either.

The disc scratching thing was never really acknowledged by microsoft as a real problem, but pretty strong evidence from other sources pointed to a dodgy model of LG drive with no rubber bump stops.

The drive is longer used.

Disc scratchings these days are more than likely due to the console moving while a disc is in the drive...

why wouldn't you put it on carpet? is it just a dust factor or something else?

i've had my ps3 standing upright on the carpet since i bought it and nothing has gone wrong....YET eeeeeeep

the PS3 is much sturdier than the 360, but I'd still get it off the carpet. Dust is a factor, but more importantly the overheating.

The PS3 runs ludicrously hot regardless though, but I've still never experienced ANY slowdown or crash.

would putting a smallish plastic or glass sheet underneath it make much difference?

i might as well be safe than sorry

Well, it's better than carpet, but it won't really make much difference. Try putting a box under it or something instead, get it off the ground and away from the dust at least.

you can buy stands for the PS3 for about $20 anyway, just get one of those
