It's easy to go with Sony because of the high profile exclusives they continually bring out, even after the next gen consoles have been announced we're still getting games like the Last of Us, GT6 and Beyond 2 Souls. Microsoft seems to start off strong but drop off a fair bit later on.

Swaying towards buying a PS4 when I return from the US.

The streaming service (Gaikai) is what's swaying me. I have an Xbox 360, so I've missed out on Heavy Rain, Unchartered and now The Last of Us, so I'd love to play them.

You might want to find something else to be swayed on. The streaming won't reach the US until some time next year, and I suspect it's going to take even longer to reach us.

If it even works.

That pictorial comparison of the Xbox 1 and PS4 is laughable when the very first line for X1 is exclusives from Rare and Lionhead. Rare haven't released a Triple A title since the N64 (Star Fox Adventures doesn't count) and Lionhead manages to release a mediocre Fable once every three years.

Sony are almost definitely going to have the better exclusives and X1 is almost definitely going to have the better online platform for the myriad of generic FPS's. Personally, I'm gonna go Wii U/PC next generation and then pick up a PS4 when I've slowly burnt my way through the game backlog of this generation.

I bought a PS3/360 combo this generation and found it extremely underwhelming. They're both so, so, so similar that it's almost pointless comparing them. Right now though, the exclusives for MS have completely dried up (I think, since 2007, there hasn't been an MS exclusive that hasn't been Gears, Halo, or Forza) and unless they launch a bunch of new IP with the console, it's going to be a big advantage for Sony.

There's an excellent post on Reddit discussing the costs of owning a PC vs. a console and, overtime, it's much cheaper to own a gaming PC. I'll try and dig it up.

That would be great. :thumbsu:

Alan Wake? Until it finally got ported to PC (well after (over 12 months IIRC) its console release).

Is that because of cheaper games?

Because building a gaming pc better than next gen consoles is like double the cost.

I'm buying a PS4 for a number of reasons, in no particular order.

-Strong stable of first party studios dedicated to representing a diverse range of genres and new IP. Microsoft's first party studios are significantly weaker and generally churn out shooters and bar the rush near launch, new IP's will dry up as they switch focus for other revenue streams. Happened with the 360, it will happen again. Sony is dropping multiple new IP's in the last year of ps3 across varied genres while still supporting the old favourites. (God Of War, Gran Turismo, The Last Of Us, Puppeteer, Dragon's Crown, Beyond: Two Souls)

-Vision. Sony came out and did all they could to demonstrate that the PS4 is about games, and is for gamers. They said no DRM, no always online. They actually sought feedback to make the platform developer friendly. Microsoft came out and bombarded us with TV, then fed us a shit sandwich of DRM and always online. Sure, they backpedaled after getting bitchslapped, but they have shown their true colours. The fact that the majority of Microsoft gaming heads come of as smarmy corporate suits and Sony is full of people who actually have a passion for gaming underlines this.

-Indie support. There is a very good reason why Indies are flocking to the PS4. The PS4 is an open platform, they allow people to self publish and do not charge anything for patches. Microsoft requires indies to jump through a number of draconian hoops to allow anything to get on their platform, and even then... they charge the devs a large fee for every patch released. This has in the past lead to some devs not being able to patch their games because they can't afford it. The devs of the new Abe game have come out and basically said Microsoft isn't getting their game because of their bullshit on Indies.

-Naughty Dog. Perhaps could have gone in the first point, however... they are currently the best developer in the business.. and they are owned by Sony. Could not imagine missing out on that ND greatness.

-I don't know anybody who is planning on getting an Xbone. All my gaming friends are going to get a PS4

-Dat dualshock 4. You know you want it...

-Better specs

-Cheaper

-PS+. Worth every cent

However, I will say that charging for online play now... (even with that PS+) Sony better step up their online.

The same as ps3 and 360, just get what your mates get.

I can tell you that the answer is no. No need to time travel for that

It will surprise no one that i have gone for XB as my launch console. PS4 will come when they drop the price and release a killer game for it (think LOU)

Why when they drop the price? Isn't the PS4 launching at $100 cheaper than the Xbox?

I still don't like the idea of Kinect watching my every move, so probs won't bother with Xbox next time around.

There's no exclusives for the PS4 that make me want it now

There are for XB1. When PS4's library appeals to me more, i'll get it then

I think you need to consider all the additional costs of console gaming, like Live and PSN+ subscriptions, as well as peripherals and the like, and how that adds up over time. Also, if you build a decent gaming PC, that's going to do a lot more than gaming and a lot more than anything a console can. Via Steam and their sales, games on PC probably are cheaper and, of course, piracy is far easier on a PC...

Never liked that argument. Pretty much every will already have a PC/laptop. Sure the PC will do more things but you most likely don't *need* it to be doing those things at all.
