XBOX problems

we purchased an xbox recently, and found that xbox discs often can't be read. It comes up with that crappy message, "make sure it is an xbox game, cd, dvd" etc. i borrowed afl live 2004 and if it does manage to get into the game (1 in 15 attempts!), it crashes within 5 minutes. We bought nba live and we often need to try a couple of times for it to be read. can someone tell me, is this a common xbox thing? is something wrong with my box? this is happening way to much. if someone could help that would be great.

check the cd for scratches. the afl disc is probably full of them.

The reader is probaberly coming into contact with the game disc. Or someone could have even tried to modchip the Xbox and it didn't work properly and they offloaded it to your brother without him knowing.

2 questions for you.

Has the xbox got a Modchip?

Are the games copies of originals?

If you answered yes to both then i think i know your problem. Xbox consoles have 1 of 3 different types of Drives ( im not sure what brands there are? There is a certain brand that struggles to read some DVDR's & CDR's. You may have that brand. If so the only thing you can do is shop round and see what types of DVDR's & CDR's work on yours, or buy another type of Drive second hand

Try to clear the cache. It woks for me when I get DDEs for Morrowind. Just find 3 games that work and put them in and let them load up. After that's done put in whatever game you want to play (not one of the other 3) and it should be ok. If it keeps happening then it's probably a bigger problem and you should get the Xbox checked out. I'd also advise you to check forums for the games that aren't working too make sure you haven't just lucked out and are trying to play games that have known loading issues (Morrowind, Ghost Recon etc ).

Brought mine 1st hand too but my dvd remote wont work, So i got another remote and still the same problem... any ideas on whats wrong with it ???
