I know quite a few of the young stars coming out of Tasmania such as Mitch Robinson, Aaron Cornelius, Tom Allright and the list goes on.

Have you seen any of the promising kids coming through from Tasmania live and what strengths & weaknesses do you think they have coming into AFL footy? Could there be any young smokies picked up during the upcoming drafts that haven't been talked about lately? Jaye Bowden maybe as he kicked four in the Premier League Seniors Grand Final?

Talk about all of the promising Tasmanian kids coming through the ranks in this thread.

Should be in the Tassie Forum.

A lot more talent in the state than just what will be in the Statewide League.

Should be in the Tassie Forum.

In most topics on this board, and into the future on this board, I think they'll be a lot of threads that could go in either board, but I'm starting this thread here to generate some discussion to kick things off a bit.
Then once a lot of people notice it and when there's a fair few more threads, I think then we can start drawing a few lines between the two boards.

Maybe the tread title should read 'Young Talent in the TSL'.

One word difference isn't going to change a whole lot, but I was thinking about putting that thread title as well that you suggested but I'm just leaving the discussion more open a bit at the moment to get the ball rolling.

Well the two hot prospects that seem to get plenty of airtime here on BigFooty are Mav Weller (who is rumoured to be going to the Gold Coast) and Sam Darley.

What can you tell the readers about these kids KR? What are their strengths? Any negatives?

I've personally never seen either of them play, but both have big wraps on them. A few others might be able to help you out, but their has already been plenty of discussion of them both on the Tassie board.

Here's a youtube video for people wanting to see Weller in action ; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UVVuUgecn8

Looks like he has a nice burst of pace and has some natural footy smarts, you'd imagine he'd be hot property when draft time comes around for him.

I've seen Weller only once this year in the NTFL grand final, and while he was quiet, he did enough with a good body size and shape to suggest of better things to come. The young Hislop was good in that game for the first half as well.

Jesse Crichton from the Northern Bombers has a lot of potential, although he is very light atm.

Yeah I liked the looks of him at the U/18 Championships.
Showed pace around the ground and his skills were generally very good.
As you said, needs to put on a fair bit of weight and needs to improve his decision making a bit as he tends to rush a few decisions but he definitely has a massive upside.

Hislop has mongrel and good skills, pacey and looked to have a pretty good fitness base as well. I liked the look of him.

I'm biased about Jesse Crichton as i played footy with his father on and off for about the last 15 years. I actually coached both of them in the same side a couple of years ago. Jesse's dad, Brett is around the 6' 2" mark and 90kg. Could run like a gazelle and take hangers off one step. Much in the same mould as a Brett Burton type athlete/player. His mum also is a very good sportsperson as well. I'd say he'll fill out to be much like his dad, so on that alone he would be worth a punt, especially for someone like the gold coast. His only drawback is he's a very shy kid, a real country boy and not overly bright. Would need a lot of support in moving away from home etc.

Posted this under Player Movement Talk, earlier today.
Probably should be in this thread (as well).

"2008 NAB AFL Draft completed today 29 Nov.
No suprises in the Top 10.
Tassy moves as best as I can see were:
Mitch Robinson at # 40 to Carlton
Aaron Cornelius at # 57 to Brisbane
Bart McCulloch at # 69 to Brisbane
Also Tom Hislop went at # 58 from Essendon to Richmond.
Good luck to all."

Yeah, quite a few of them got drafted which was pleasing from Tassie's point of view.

But, they did get drafted rather late. Robinson was thought to be an early second round draft prospect, same with Cornelius and McCulloch was taken just about where he belongs, though he's a real eye-catcher for his height so he's certainly one to watch develop over the next few years.

Liam Jones who went to the Doggies at Pick 32 is Tasmanian.

He has been at school in Melbourne (Scotch College) last year as he is on a scholarship.

Pretty good result for Tassie having 4 drafted, given last year we only had Tom Collier picked up. Also good to see we had twice as many as Queensland and NSW didn't get any youngsters picked up. And they want to put a 2nd team into both of these states at the expense of Tassie????

They'll be a few more Tassie blokes taken in the rooie draft no doubt. I've heard that most clubs will load up on rookies this year.
