The Wizard Cup has changed my mind on how i believe the team should look... So heres my new top 22

FB B. Jones Glass Chick
HB Hunter Staker Wirrupunda
C Braun Fletcher Kerr
HF Embley Gardiner Sampi
FF Matera McDougall Lynch
RR Cox Judd Cousins
I/C Selwood Waters Stenglein Seaby
Emg Butler Hansen Banfield R. Jones

Changes that i have made is to include Brett Jones in the starting 22. Jones has looked in great form and his strength and size mean he could play on a whole range of differenr forwards. Staker moved to CHB, with Wirrupunda playing up the ground a bit more. Moved Embley to HFF simply because he is not desperately needed in the midfield and i believe his marking power could cause problems. I have left out Butler simply because i believe that Selwood and Waters are ahead of him in terms of form atm, but if anyone of those 2 play 1 or 2 bad games in a row they are in danger of losing there place. Included Seaby in my team because he looks to have improved his marking and has looked very good taking over no 1 rucking responsibilities from Dean Cox. Im getting excited.. BRING ON ROUND 1 :D

Banfield will be in the side for sure and I can't see Stenglein starting on the bench.

I reckon you have to have Hansen at CHF there as I don't think Gardiner is best suited there atm. Hansen was good last night and I think is making that position his own for round 1. But he was a off the week before so we have to see if he can be consistent in the final.

My best 22 after last night

Matera Lynch Gardiner
Embley McDougall Sampi
Braun Judd Kerr
Waters Staker Wirrapunda
Hunter Glass Chick

Cox Cousins Fletcher

Stenglien Seaby Butler Banfield

Unlucky - Selwood R Jones B Jones Wooden and Hansen

Since the WC i really think that Lynch is the answer at FF because of his strength which would also allow Mcdougall if fit enough to playing CHF (his natural position IMO). This of course relies on Staker holding down CHB

Too hard.

Too many good players won't play as many games as they should this season, simply because of our sheer depth from half forward, through midfield to half back.

B: Wirrpunda Glass Chick
HB: Stenglein Staker Hunter
C: Kerr Cousins Braun
HF: Sampi Gardiner Embley
F: Matera Lynch McDougall
R: Cox Judd Fletcher
INT: Hansen Banfield Seaby Selwood

This exercise just underlines how strong a list we have.

Hopefully Wooden, Waters, Butler and B. Jones will get some opportunities this year in defence and through the middle.

After that you have R. Jones and Adkins pushing for spots across HF.

Throw in McConnell, Graham and M. Embley and we have a very promising core of 30-odd players to select from.

(Assuming no injuries)

B: Wirrpunda Glass Chick
HB: B Jones Lynch/Staker Hunter
C: Kerr Cousins Embley
HF: Sampi Gardiner McDougall
F: Matera Smith Waters
R: Cox Judd Fletcher
INT (From): Gaspar Seaby Selwood Stenglein Braun R Jones Lynch/Staker

Very hard on Butler and Banners

My top 22 for round 1 assuming Fido, Cox and Doogs are all fit.

B: Wirrapunda Glass Hunter

HB: Banfield Staker Chick

C: Braun Cousins Fletcher

HF: Embley Hansen Sampi

FF: Matera McDougall Gardiner

R: Cox Judd Kerr

Int: Stenglien Seaby Lynch Wooden

Em: Jones Waters Selwood

------------------
Others: B Jones, Butler, Adkins, McConnell, Embley and whoever else missing.

Inj: Smith, Gaspar.
------------------

The Spine looks decent on paper but last night we saw how vunerable we are down back and how much we need a good kp forward. On our list you have to say probably our best two answers for that gun key forward position are both injured (smith, gaspar). So after that Id go doogs and Hansen. I have Doogs at FF and Hansen CHF but you could probably switch that around if need be. Down back Glass at FB and Staker at CHB. Staker is our best bet for CHB, he didnt get a chance on Whittnall last night but I thought it was worth a punt early on. Played not too bad on Morrell but was beaten one on one a few times. However besides Wirra, he generates the best rebound out of the D50 and so I have him in there but against the bigger bodies, Id play Lynch as I cant see him doing anything more than pinch hitting up forward. We have unbelievable depth in our utilites range and even in our big men department but no absolute guns that stand out and that will always be the difference between being a 5-8 or top 4 side. However with our midfeild I think we can win enough games at home to be in contention for top 4 this year and in the next 2-3 years when the young talls get a bit more experienced then we can call ourselves a genuine flag threat.

For F's sake, don't base your opinions on the mickey mouse final where Carlton played all at home wanting to win the wiz and Eagles played five games in 30C heat, travelled heaps, rotated players and only was interested in afl round one. Woosh even had players doing jacobs ladder before games.
Look at the whole picture, not a game with tired players against fresh and a melbun media frenzy combines with disgraceful umpiring!!!!!

We have a great sqaud and we are going places.

My top 22
B: Wirrpunda Glass Hunter

HB: Banfield Lynch Chick

C: Braun Cousins Kerr

HF: Embley Hansen Sampi

FF: Matera McDougall Gardiner

R: Cox Judd Fletcher

Int: Stenglien Seaby Staker\Selwood Waters

Em: Jones Wooden Selwood\Staker

I dont think you can have too many big guys on the bench.
You userly have 7 talls? Maybe 7 and a half
cox, seaby, glass, hunter, staker, lynch, hansen, gardiner, doogs
thats 8 and a half hunter being the half.
who misses out?

ruck:cox, seaby
FB:glass
chb:lynch, staker, hunter
3rd tall:hunter, staker
chf:hansen, gardiner
ff:doogs, lynch
3rd tall:gardner, staker

I think staker will miss out even though i think he should be in for developments sake.

staker is in our best 22.

Assuming Matera isn't available but Cox and Doogs are

FB: Banfield Glass Wirrpunda
HB: Hunter Lynch Waters
C: Fletcher Cousins Stenglein
HF: Sampi Gardiner Embley
FF: Staker McDougall Seaby
R:Cox Judd Kerr
Int: Braun, Chick, Hansen Selwood.

In: Cox, McDougall,
Out: R. Jones, Graham, Wooden, Adkins

Some pretty tough calls to make. IMO, Doogs + Cox are no brainers as ins. I really really really believe that we need to get Lynch back to defence, and whilst I'm hesitant to rip into Jones and Wooden after one poor game, but with the bench needing to be cut by two, places are at a premium. Adkins is very unlucky, I'd be tempted to include him instead of Staker depending on how tall Adelaide are looking.

Even if they don't make the cut next week, Butler, Brett Jones, Matera, McConnell and Gaspar (heh well, no harm in hoping :D) are in line for games early in the season.

Pretty tall forward line with Buffy, Doogs and Seabs. I would swap Buffy for Jangles and put Bones in his spot.

HF: Sampi Gardiner Embley
FF: Waters McDougall Seaby

It will be a real battle for spots this year and it will be hard for Woosha to reward good WAFL form as there will be a lot of players in very good touch.

Hmmmm here is my take on our best 22 to take on Adelaide. Assuming Matera, Cox and Doogs are all fit.

Banfield Glass Wirrpunda
Chick Lynch Hunter
Embley Fletcher Kerr
Gardiner Hansen R.Jones
Matera McDougall Sampi

Cox Cousins Judd

Braun Stenglien Staker Seaby

That was off the top of my head but looking closer at it I have left out Waters who certainly deserves a spot after really great form through the Wizzer cup. Cant leave R.Jones out of the side after a great WC and a lot of players are hard done by like B.Jones, Adkins, Waters, Selwood, Wooden, Butler etc...

I think Chick should start to lose his spot unless he starts performing. He has done barely anything since he came over from the Hawks.Waters and Selwood should be ahead of him IMO.

Its difficult but for me R Jones has done nothing last year he struggled....did ok in Wiz but hmmm. Butler has been consistent since his debut last year ahead of R Jones no probs. Well Waters tuff as nails like him to see always picked. and B Jones in their to..

For me

Wirra Glass B.Jones
Stenglein Staker Hunter
Embley Fletch Butler
Waters McDougall Kerr
Matera Lynch Sampi
Cox Cousins Judd
Gardiner Braun Wooden Chick
unlucky Seaby Banfield Adkins Selwood McConnell Graham R. Jones
Question can u play with 3 ruckman Cox Seaby Gardiner think not ??? for me.

Given that Gardiner's days in the ruck are finished, Seaby is pretty close to an automatic selection in my opinion.

By the looks of things, a lot of people agree with me.

Don't understand why some people insist on naming Stenglein at HBF? It's not like he's going to play there a lot in the near future. He might get named there on a thurs night on occasions but that will be more about naming him on the field as I believe the 18 named on the field have to play whereas interchange players can swapped with emergencies?

There's no shame in naming Stenglein on the bench because realistically when the opening ball gets bounced there will most likely be a midfielder (could be Kerr or Braun) will start on the bench. I think some people might still have the old school mentality where getting named on the bench means you are necessarily in the bottom four.

FB: Chick Glass Wirrpunda
HB: Hunter Lynch Waters
C: Fletcher Cousins Braun
HF: Sampi Gardiner Embley
FF: Matera McDougall Seaby

R:Cox Judd Kerr
Int: Stenglein, Banfield, Hansen Staker

IN: Cox, Matera, McDougall, B Jones
Out: Graham, Wooden, Adkins, R Jones, Hansen + 1 other, Selwood maybe.

I'd hate to drop Selwood, but i can't think who else.

FB: Hunter Glass Banfield
HB: B Jones Lynch Wirrpunda
C: Fletcher Cousins Braun
HF: Staker Gardiner Embley
FF: Sampi McDougall Matera
R:Cox Judd Kerr
Int: Waters, Chick, Seaby, Stenglein

Its a very versatile bench; Waters, Chick and Stenglein can all play Back, Forward or on the ball, and Seaby can play ruck and forward.
