Now it is looking like a dead rubber for round 24 so how would you play this match which means nothing

There is still a couple of players i think need a rest and some players who need some game time

My team would look like this

Davis Keefe Toovey

Buckley Reid Obrien

Thomas Swan Macaffer

Beams Brown Didak

Blair Dawes Fasolo

Wood Sidebottom Wellingham

McCarthy Goldsack Rounds Sinclair

Resting these players

Ball
Jolly
Cloke
Pendlebury
Tarrant
Johnson

I would also not fly Reid and maybe another to perth for our round 23 game to give a couple a rest

What is everybodies thoughts Geelong have seemed to rest players every week

We have to play any player who has been out for a while but clearly in the best 22: Dawes, Toovey, Wellingham, and only rest those who need a rest for a particular reason to be replaced only by guys able to fill in if necessary - Keefe, Macaffer, Wood etc.

Other than that play the strongest team possible that late in the season.

Why would anyone need a rest before finals? They have all already had 2 weeks off, and many players have missed games in addition.

If we were to win in week one of finals, we will have players who have missed rd 24, and also had a break 2nd week of the finals. Not a great lead up to a Prelim final. Thats 1 game of football in the last 27 or 28 or so days.

Also, we should be playing our best team in round 24. If the Cats come out firing it will be a good wake up call for us, like we got agaisnt the Hawks in the final round last year.

We were in 3rd gear in the last 2 rounds off last year

i could not agree with you more. let's be honest, we are facing a relatively comfortable qualifying final v the weagles on home turf, so if we rested blokes from rnd 24 they could very conceivably enter a prelim for their 2nd game in 4 weeks and not having had a genuinely decent hit out for longer than that. we should be playing our best 22 from here in and going flat out, so the same group get continuity ahead of sept

rnd 24 - B: toovey tarrant goldsack
HB: obrien reid davis
C: thomas swan sidebottom
HF: beams cloke didak
F: krakouer dawes brown
Foll: jolly pendlebury ball
Int: wellingham blair johnson
sub: fasolo/mccarthy/macaffer/buckley, probably favour buckley for his versatility

go hell for leather to tune up for finals and to demoralise the cats spirit

goldsack to fill maxwell's role. there is no way maxxy is coming up from a broken thumb that's been operated on in 3 weeks. as much as i hate to say it he is pretty much done and dusted for this year. captain or not, it is a massive call to bring him into a prelim final not having played for about 6 weeks

heath shaw to play week 1 of finals, prob in place of the sub from the above lineup. big call after 8 weeks out but he is good enough to take the punt

Does Krakouer deserve a rest too BEEG? If you blatantly forgot him, that's fine.

Did forget him but he could use a rest to be honest his playing a very high tempo compared to last year and would be due for a rest

Maybe to extrapolate on this thread, who do you take (or not) across to Subi round 23? No need for you guys to play on the otherside of the country any more this year?

Did what you did ly vs Hawks in R21 - no thanks. We have more pride in winning games rather than throwing/tanking games in a desire to win a finals game.

Didn't do the Hawks any favours, lost Hodge and Birchall for the finals. Who will you lose (to join injured/underdone Maxwell, Shaw, Didak, Dawes etc) to face probably a flying Eagles outfit?

Anyone who has any slight niggle or injury, doesn't play. I don't think age is a pre requisite for a rest, as I'd prefer the likes of Johnson, Krakouer and even Jolly to be playing right up until September.

We are likely to have an 8 day break after the Cats game anyway (Sat Night final almost certain it seems if we are playing WCE) so anyone who is capable, plays round 24.

I want us to go 21-1.:D:thumbsu:

rest 6-8 players over the next 3 weeks not all at once.

Would prefer if Ball and Jolly missed the perth trip due to the hard ground. Maybe even Wellers if he is fit to play this week.

I agree with this. And if we were to mass rest doing it for the Perth trip would be the way to go as we come back to a 6 day break going into round 24, plus the group would play together for the final game before finals.

In saying that I don't think we will rest many players at once. Malthouse has said before a few times that you can't play with form going into the finals.

You can play with form when your playing the purple witches hats in rnd 23.
