Watching the Ellis Draft day video made me think what would you do as a Parent if your son was drafted by an opposition club.
For 18+ years you have been a diehard Richmond supporter and all of a sudden while you would be proud of what your son has achieved so far,It would put the cat amongst the pigeons so to speak.

I'd take legal action to prevent it happening, citing that the emotional stress it would cause would be too much for my already fragile psyche.
On a happier note, my son is now a Gold Member of the RFC.:)

Reece McKenzie's dad is a Carlton premiership player (1987). How do you think he feels!
Like i said he'd be proud of his son(As any Parent would be)and he'll support his son like he has in past 18yrs,But will he support Richmond like he would have Carlton. As a diehard Tiger i couldn't do it 100%.My Son 100% yes and i'll be happy each time his side wins.I'm not so sure id be happy for the team if they beat Richmond though.lol

"Son, I'm glad you have achieved your dream, but, if you don't get a trade to the Tigers at the end of your 2 year contract you will be alone on Christmas.
Don't look to your mother, she agrees."

Remember having a beer at The Great Western before a Richmond/Adelaide game at Etihad, Kane Johnson was still at Adelaide and someone pointed out a table of Yellow and Black from head to toe, and it was Kane Johnsons family, Dad included.:)

its times like this where i really feel for the Selwoods parents. :p

would happily support my child 100% but like others i don't think i could actively support another team, just wouldnt be right.

Lucky that his son is doing better than he did.

On topic, my Cousin played for St Kilda reserves back in the 80's...The family kept supporting Richmond, although we supported him as well (I still remember Richmond V St Kilda games at Moorabbin, supporting the St Kilda in the early game, then Richmond in the main game). Not sure what would have happened if he'd played in the seniors against Richmond, although I have a sneaking suspicion my nan would have hobbled him :) . In the end he tried to get a transfer to Richmond, and when no deal could be made, left the Saints (ended up playing most of his career at Southport).

If it was my Son, I'd probably support him/his team and Richmond, and when they played, he'd probably get the nod...although I'd be in his ear about changing clubs fairly regularly.

A good example of a father putting his sons first is Graham Cornes, how would he have felt when both Chad and Kane ended up at Port, the Glenelg and Adelaide hatred of Port would have been very strong.

I have a 9 year-old, footy-crazy boy, who the doctors predict will be 201cm when he finishes growing. His not clumsy like big kids can be (already takes contested pack marks), and his the 2nd quickest kid in his year-level over 400m. No doubt this is a proud parent's crazy bias, but I reckon if he decides he really wants to do it, and puts in the work, he'll play elite sport. I know it makes me a conceited bastard, but I have actually put a bit of thought into this question already.

For me, I'll just be stoked if he chooses footy. (His a pretty fair basketballer and long jumper/high jumper too, for a 9 y.o.) No matter what team, I'll support him whole-heartedly.

But Richmond is part of who I am. Swapping to another team would be like trying to grow a third testicle. Just not biologically possible.

"Running Bounce" Hampson.

I always said, it does not matter who you get drafted too, as long as you request a trade to Richmond at the end of your 2 years after winning the B & F, then I get asked, " what if the club I'm at is successful and Richmond are shit " to which I respond " what if the club you are at are druggies or shit and Richmond have just completed the grand slam. " son then replies " but but but " and I reply " I'm your father and you'll do as your told "

My son will be playing on the US Golf Tour after he finishes his Golf Scholarship....lol
He loves footy (tiges) and basketball but is an absolute golf nut like his father, he is only 20 months old at the moment but mums a PGA professional and he has been going to the range since he was born and hitting balls before he could walk.
In the end you wouldnt care what club they played for you were just glad they made it.

Voted Split 50/50 but in reality it would be more like the Tigers would become my second side.

But in saying that 2 daughters here so happy days im a Tiger for life :D
