Radio Your thoughts on MTR!

MTR is the "I hate Labor" station. There's no balanced, rational or logical argument on that station. They feed on the lowest forms of thought. Just a bunch of old white guys shouting into the microphone. It's all emotionalised sensationalism, no credibility. Chris Smith is the worst. He is smug, arrogant and gratingly obnoxious. I'm really glad they're doing poorly because they pander to the nasty side of humanity and that's really concerning. Some of the callers sound like they'd do really well in Nazi Germany, very sad and scary :(

After a brief listen it was pretty obvious that there is little sincerity in anything the presenters are ranting about. They have been given an edict to be controversial but the public can sniff a fraud a mile away.

MTR: Manufacturing The Rage.

Do we know the individual time slot ratings? Would be interested to see how its mornings ranked with AW, 774 and MMM.

Btw, lol at The Age acting all smug about ratings etc.. their readership and paper is going down the drain.

What would you like The Age to report ? Promising figures from Melbournes new talk back station!I'd rather have haemoroids than be subjected to that shock jock shit

ive found that too. everyday the following topics are discussed:

boat people
refugees
gillard
labor party

re:steve price. he and sam have great chemistry and dont take each other too seriously. provides a few lulz for me in the morning.

when price was @ 3AW i felt he was always "for" the boat people per se. there'd always be listeners who bagged them and immigrants. price would always have a go at the caller. i remember on a few occasions a listener (who herself admitted to being an "immigrant") went off about boat people. price said "so just because you've come over and are living here you dont want anyone else coming over?". he was mad.

andrew bolt, some part of me thinks he's being controversial for lulz.

the bloke in the arvo (smith?). is he based in sydney? for some reason he talks a bit about the place (although maybe im being picky).

so does mtr share presenters/shows with sydney stations?

martin kings work on ACA was just training for his spot.

Yes, the first two hours of Chris Smith’s show are networked from 2GB, hence the references to Sydney suburbs and MTR returning from ad breaks with Smith already mid-sentence. The final hour is then MTR-only.

Ross Greenwood’s nightly business show also comes from 2GB, as does the Overnight shift and most weekend programs except Glenn Ridge.

This is why 3AW is now constantly referring to itself as “Melbourne’s Own”.

Thats why I brought this up very early on the thread.

Interesting that Chris Smith is doing 1pm-4pm considering he is on 2GB in Sydney from 12-3pm.

His show can be naturally Sydney Centric in the past, so this would need to change.

Wondering how they are going effectively pull this off to the audience to be honest.

Seems to be going as poorly as I expected it too.

Oh dear, it is going from bad to worse:

"Struggling right-wing broadcaster MTR has shed a quarter of its average audience and has again claimed the title of Melbourne's lowest-ratings station.

MTR now has an average of just 6000 listeners — down from 8000 — and attracts only 1.1 per cent of the available audience, according to this morning's Nielsen report.

Program director and breakfast host Steve Price said he was disappointed but "determined to make it work".

Oh good, another article from that struggling left-wing newspaper.

"It's no secret that our signal is less strong in the western and northern suburbs and if you want to tackle the likes of 3AW, you have to be strong in those areas."

http://www.theage.com.au/entertainm...a-quarter-of-its-audience-20100914-15a88.html

I think that is a big issue, it has a shocking signal.

"If you look at Jon Faine on 774 ABC and even Neil Mitchell on 3AW, they can be conservative but not in a reactionary way. They're both open to ideas."

um, what?

Happy for them to report it, MTR is obviously struggling.

Was just pointing out that the language used by The Age is a bit rich considering their lack of popularity.

What part of the report was 'a bit rich'? It seemed pretty honest to me.

When sales figures come out showing the HUN thrashing the Age, do they start the article with "Struggling left-wing paper, The Age..."

i listen to 1377 mtr in the mornings (when not listening to SEN). I enjoy sam newman (wut?) and steve price take the piss out of each other (as said earlier in the thread)

something ive noticed more and more recently. the presenters and regular guests seem to be angry about everything. take andrew bolt. i swear the bloke is gonna have a heart attack everytime he says labor, leftie, the age or julia gillard.

steve price a shock jock? i recall during his 3AW drive days he'd be pro immigration and anti racism. i think he's there to incite and create robust discussion.

so battlelines are drawn:

mtr/herald sun
abc/the age

and the herald sun is the most popular paper in the country right?
