He reminds me so much of Ash Hansen and I think you have a future CHF there. With Clinton Young and the likes of the others I think you've got a great future.

Zac Dawson = Future CHF.

:)

Got a sneaky feeling he'd be fourth in line for that gig (Franklin, Roughhead, Boyle).

A spot down back would be his best chance, possibly depending of whether he develops better than Kirkby.

Roughhead CHB
Franklin HFF
Dawson CHF
Boyle FF

Lots of talent though :)

Been reported on HHQ that Zac will be going to Perth this w/end. Whether or not he is genuinely in the mix for a game, or is there for development, is another story.
Fits with what AC said on SEN a few weeks back, that Clinton Young, Bo Nixon and Zac Dawson would all get a run before the end of the season.

Geez, they must not rate him highly if they're sending him to Perth this week.

We're playing is Brisbane!

As for future spine:
FB - Croad (will play deeper as he gets older)
CHB - Boyle
CHF - Franklin
FF - Roughhead

Williams in a forward pocket; Thurgood taking the third tall down back.

As for Dawson, i'm far from convinced, but I guess he or Kirkby could feasibly take a key defensive post in time.

He is never going to learn anymore playing VFL sized footballers. Let him play on Jonathon Brown, it will give him an idea where is going. Another person he should play on is Barry Hall.

If Hawthorn expects Franklin to hold down CHF they are in trouble! He will be a superstar no doubt, but not at CHF!

Give Dawson some time he'll be a gun.

why couldn't franklin be CHF? Has looked pretty good in his first year.. imagine when his body fills out. He's quick, has a big leap, and good kick and his frame will be massive once he is 22/23... I can't understand why people wouldn't think he is a future CHF. Imagine trying to man him up.

Geez Louise...

That's not a baptism of fire, that's a baptism of nuclear holocaust!

I agree with this assessment entirely.

Thurgood will not make a KPP, but should prove effective enough as a taller peripheral defender anyway.

I see a few people wording-up Dawson for a future key defensive role.

Has he actually shown sufficent signs to this point to suggest he'll go up enough to cut the mustard as FB in the top flight?

I'm as bewildered as you are.

A guy who will top out at 198cm & 100kg with a high leap, marvellous pace, a booming kick and a willingness to work.

I can't see any reason why he couldn't cut it at CHF, and would prove exceedingly dangerous, particularly if he could work a tandem key forward pairing with a contested marking machine like Roughead.

Dawsone is GAWN, the guy is an out and out dud, if people on here are of the thinking that Dawson is gonna become our CHB and be a descent AFL footballer you are off your tree.

Dawsone has done nothing but become an OK VFL footballer, he is not quick, shocking skills and is as thin as a bean pole. Why the hell would we want him to play CHB?? there is a reason he hasnt played in 3 years and its not because we are waiting for him to develop its because he is no good.

Noone come back to me and say ohh the kid is skinny, or he is raw and needs time to develop. This excuse hasnt stopped Cam Wight from the Bulldogs plays 5 or 6 games and show something, it hasnt stopped Jared Brennan from the Lions and it hasnt stopped Kepler Bradley.

If Zac Dawson ever pulls on a Hawthorn jumper i will spew up, he would easily be in our bottom 2 or 3 players on the list.

Kirkby = younger + better.

cheers

So that's a no for Dawson @ FB then?

Going to have to disagree with you here Tige.

Firstly, he was always a long term prospect.

Meaning that he was a ruck/key position prospect. Long term in my book would be about 4-5 years.

Given last year was his FIRST year on the list, and he won Box Hill reserves best and fairest, I'd say that was a good start.

He's been thrown a big job in the seniors this year at CHB and has had some great games against far bigger bodied experienced forwards. Yes he's had some average ones but focusing on the fact that he's improved to able to look very accomplished in a hard position is a good sign.

Next year he'd be looking to add more weight and really step up a gear to be pushing for senior selection midway through the year, and play perhaps 3-4 games realistically. The year after.. (where he would be 21) would be where he'd be trying to make a spot his own and hopefully the replacement for John Hay (hopefully).

If he keeps improving I can't see why not, because that's all you can ask from a young player. He has done everything asked for him, and if he can fill out he could be a player. Its not like he's gone backwards or going no where, he lifted his game to go from looking ordinary to looking like a decent player.

I agree with you Kirkby may be more talented, but that doesn't mean Dawson can't make it eventually. Kirkby and Young were steals in the rookie draft, who were probably passed because of their size.

Long term prospects need long term development or there'd be no point drafting him, if you are going to cut him after two years, when he has improved substantially after one year.

Cheers.

Would have been a fair effort playing AFL while still in year 11 at Essendon Grammar!

Your ignorance clearly shows that you don't know what you're talking about!

3 years? 3 years ago he was still at Calder. This is his second year on the list.

It's Bradley's 2nd year, Brennan's 3rd year, Wight's 3rd year. They've all had a chance yet you are already shooting Dawson down before he gets a go?

Dawson is older by 40 days. Hardly a huge gap.

Hold on a minute, are people trying to tell me we have a talented tall in our squad and he hasn't been playing? Why the hell not?
Basically because he's still re-learning as a footballer. He's played Forward and Ruck as a kid and now we are forming him into a KPP. He's got a long way to go but he's making leaps and bounds lately.

Matty i know your the Box Hill geek who goes to every game and analyises everything every Box Hill player does but if Zac was on Collingwoods list or Essendons you would be saying his no good as well.

I am terribly sorry that i got his years wrong and yes in fact i do realise he has been on the list for 2 years and not 1. But i am allowed to have my opinion and that is that Dawson is a hack, his to skinny and to slow and will never make a good league footballer, they are my observations and ill stick to them.

Ive played footy with and against Zac Dawson and i have always thought he wasnt much chop, have thought that since i was 16. It has stuck in my head a few things that he did when playing footy during 18s and school footy and i didnt like it. Ive seen him play fairly closely many times since and i cant see how he has improved.

Cheers

Dawson may be skinny and slow, but at least he is out there having a crack. You on the other hand will end up like 90% of all other losers on big footy... bald and fat, spending all of their time paying out their own team!

Cheers to that!
