Zappa, Frank

Music needs more musicians like Frank Zappa.

He was easily one of the best and most original musicians of the 20th century.

Genius. Greatly misunderstood and underrated.

Most of his music isn't particularly accessible though, which is probably why he isn't appreciated more. When he wanted to, he could write some pretty good stripped down rock tunes.

Had some of the greatest drummers on the planet. If nothing else, I thank him for discovering them.

You have my total approval on that statement .... genius ... the ultimate rock virtuoso.

And Francis Vincent also had the uncanny knack of surrounding himself with some of the other greatest musicians of the 20th Century ...

Adrain Belew. Steve Vai. Howard Kaylan. Mark Volman. Captain Beefheart. Patrick O'Hearn. Vinnie Colaiuto, to name just a few.

There's a Frank Zappa album for every mood you're in ....

I have a copy of his Strictly Commercial (best of)Cd and thought his stuff is very amusing and destinctive. No doubt there is something for everyone here. Don't know much about him but happy to pick up on some of his unique material.

No disagreement here either!

I think you'd be hard pressed not to find something to like amongst his many albums.

I like Sheik Yerbouti and Broadway the Hard Way. I also have Chunga's Revenge on vinyl.

"Great Googlie Mooglie!"

Great albums, especially the latter.

Some of my other favourites would be: Make a Jazz Noise Here, You Are What You Is, and The Best Band You Never Heard In Your Life. I never get sick of those albums.

Same Here. I'd like to add to that 'We're only in it for the money'. It is my favourite Zappa and the cover is the best take off of 'Sgt Peppers Lonely hearts club band'. Undoubtably one of the best take offs as well as albums in the history of music. The music content is just fantastic. I love 'Mother People' and 'Take your clothes off when you dance'

George Harrison putting Zappa's problems with warner in the late 70's to use in his own attack on the music industry from 1981.....

"we need some omph-pa-pa,
nothing like frank zappa,
and not the new wave they dont play that crap

it's like beating your head on a brickwall,
hard like a stone,
ain't got time for the music,
they want the blood from a clone"
