I am really looking forward to this device. I know it isn't really revolutionary over leaders in the PMP market (technology-wise) like the Cowon S9, but it pulls out a couple of trumps that could make it a 'close to perfect' PMP:

3.3 inch OLED (480x272) screen - OLED really is the benchmark out there for screen quality and power consumption

multi-touch, accelerometer, WiFi - all the usual jazz

HD Radio - hence the HD name. Misleading given people jumping to the 'HD video' conclusion

Zune integration into Xbox Live

Web browser based on IE6 on WinCE

HDMI output - though I believe only with the dock

But the real killer feature is that its running on the nVidia Tegra soc. It is extremely powerful given its size, and is something we will see in the next few months on netbooks. Capable of 720p or 1080p output (dependent on the chips clockspeed). Not to mention its benefits for games. But what makes it really useful is its benefit on battery life. Tests have shown it able to play music continuously on one charge for 25 days. Obviously we would be lucky to get 1/25th of that on an mp3 player battery, but obviously this chip is going reduce the amount of charging we do.

Those specs look close to perfect. Resolution is a little low but not that big a deal, given its quality advantage over a standard LCD. It should be well supported app wise like the original zune, have excellent sound quality (apple...maybe you should take note here...some people actually place sound quality above all else so start making devices with quality dacs in them!) and very good battery life. Tick tick and tick for all the important requirements.

Looking forward to september.
